Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and supervise nursing care and activities on assigned units.
  • Ensure compliance with nursing directives, policies, laws, and regulations.
  • Develop and initiate improvements in the organization and delivery of high-quality, cost-effective patient care.
  • Support the Nursing Department and organization’s vision, mission, and goals.
  • Manage nursing clinical practice, budgetary personnel activities, regulatory activities, and continued support of the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Optimize patient and family interactions and experience.
  • Communicate and incorporate nursing and organizational strategies, vision, goals, and initiatives at the unit and department level.
  • Participate in formulating nursing policies and goals and policies affecting other departments.
  • Communicate and interpret policies, procedures, and regulations to patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Promote positive guest relations.
  • Set expectations for evidence-based practice and incorporate it into procedure development.
  • Foster an effective working relationship with the Medical Director and Physician Liaison of the inpatient unit.
  • Develop positive and proactive employee relations.
  • Serve as a resource for unit issues, mentor staff, delegate actions, and create an environment of participation.
  • Facilitate assigned personnel’s attendance at internal and external educational programs.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Nurse Educators on employee orientation, continuing education, and competencies.
  • Provide direct supervision to assigned personnel and assist with orientation and integration of new employees.
  • Conduct performance appraisals, monitor absenteeism, order supplies, schedule 24-hour staffing, and perform patient and bed triage where appropriate.
  • Address performance problems and initiate the disciplinary process as appropriate.
  • Design and implement strategic operational plans related to changes in the healthcare environment.
  • Manage capital, clinical, financial, Human Resources, and information systems quality and service plans as applicable.
  • Manage assignments to meet worked-hour statistics and demonstrate fiscal accountability.
  • Develop and promote service standards that foster a customer-sensitive environment.
  • Measure performance against standards and secure team commitment to exceed standards.
  • Resolve patient and customer issues in a timely manner.
  • Conduct leadership rounds on the unit.
  • Review unit and system risk exposure and develop educational activities to reduce liability.
  • Ensure incidents, serious events, and sentinel events are reported to Performance Improvement and addressed in a timely manner.
