Requirements
  • Current licensure by the State Board of Nursing, or certification or licensure as a Risk Manager, with at least two years of long-term care experience.
  • Demonstrated success communicating technical ideas and concepts.
Responsibilities
  • Assess department training needs and respond accordingly.
  • Orient new staff members and provide ongoing employee training.
  • Schedule training programs and in-services for all employees.
  • Lecture and demonstrate procedures using motion pictures, DVDs, and charts, and use outside consultants or speakers when possible.
  • Observe employees applying procedures and provide one-to-one training as needed.
  • Supervise company-provided online education and monitor compliance.
  • Schedule facility tours and provide administrative staff addresses to acquaint new personnel with facility operations and interrelationships.
  • Develop recruitment strategies for all positions.
  • Assist with selection for open positions.
  • Maintain documentation of orientation and in-service training for all employees.
  • Follow up with new employees at regular intervals to determine additional training and support needs.
  • Communicate department needs to the Administrator and coordinate department services, scheduling, and budget.
  • Provide input to the Administrator regarding budget needs.
  • Coordinate employee service awards and recognition programs.
  • Monitor safe working practices, provide education, and coordinate with the Safety Committee on corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain effective communication with residents, families, and facility staff.
  • Communicate new procedures to staff and educate them on those procedures.
  • Assist with procedure development using job analysis techniques.
  • Assist with the Continuous Quality Improvement Program as needed.
  • Stay current on standard practices through communication with the Health Department, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other relevant organizations.
  • Ensure orientation to the Electronic Medical Records system and periodically review proper documentation understanding.
