Cumming Group expands Texas footprint through merger with Vidaurri Management Group.

Cumming Group expands Texas footprint through merger with Vidaurri Management Group. Jessica Busch Senior Director, Public Relations Vidaurri Management Group (VMG), a Fort Worth-based owner's representation and project management firm, has merged with Cumming Group. VMG builds on Cumming Group's established Texas team of more than 250 professionals. Founded in 2016, VMG delivers projects across a wide range of sectors, including municipal, K-12/higher education, healthcare, manufacturing, aviation, entertainment, hospitality, multi-family, mixed-use, and corporate. VMG is led by Co-Founder Jon Vidaurri, who brings more than 40 years of experience in the built environment, during which he has managed a wide range of programs shaping the DFW Metroplex - from hospitals and police stations to shopping centers and mixed-use developments. The merger strengthens Cumming Group's position in one of the nation's most active construction markets. Dallas-Fort Worth generates over $40 billion in annual construction activity, with Fort Worth ranking among the fastest growing U.S. cities and Texas leading the country in population growth. This growth is driving sustained demand for project types that Cumming Group is deeply experienced in managing, such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, and municipal facilities. Favourable economic, policy, and energy conditions across Texas are also driving growth in the advanced technologies sector, which is a key focus for Cumming Group. "We have continued to invest in the fast-growing Texas market since 2023, and it's exciting to deepen that commitment by welcoming a firm as capable and respected as VMG to our team in the Lone Star State," said Derek Hutchison, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cumming Group. "VMG's sterling reputation throughout North Texas and experience in high-growth sectors makes the deal a logical step for Cumming Group. VMG fits perfectly with our strategy to bring on partners that are best-in-class and have the deep local expertise required to deliver our clients' most complex and impactful projects." "What mattered most to us was finding a partner that understands owner expectations and values strong local relationships," said Jon Vidaurri, Managing Principal of Vidaurri Management Group. "Cumming Group brings the operational depth, technical expertise, and recruiting strength needed to support larger and more complex capital programs. That allows us to preserve our disciplined, accountable approach while broadening what we can deliver to owners across Texas."

Belfast City Council appoints design team to develop Sailortown to Titanic Quarter bridge

Belfast City Council appoints design team to develop Sailortown to Titanic Quarter bridge. Belfast City Council has secured funding from the Department for Infrastructure to appoint an expert Integrated Design Team (ICT) to develop the feasibility and concept design for a new high quality moveable active travel bridge across the River Lagan. Global consulting engineer Arup and leading bridge designer Knight Architects will work with Eadon Consulting (mechanical and electrical engineering) and Cumming Group (cost consultancy) to deliver RIBA Stages 0-2, resulting in a preferred Sailortown Bridge option recommendation next year. Chair of Belfast City Council's City Growth and Regeneration Committee, Councillor Ian McLaughlin said: "Sailortown Bridge will help Belfast Zoo achieve the Belfast Waterfront Framework's vision of a better connected, more vibrant and more attractive corridor linking to and with key education, leisure, tourism and economic destinations, neighbourhood communities and the city centre. "So we're delighted to see this much-needed regeneration project moving forward, thanks to investment from the Department for Infrastructure. With this level of expertise on board, I'm confident that the resulting design concepts will be iconic, and that the bridge will encourage more people to walk, wheel and cycle to the many key destinations around the Harbour Loop along both sides of the River Lagan." Héctor Beade, Design Director at Knight Architects, added: "The area's shipbuilding history, unique waterfront setting, river navigation requirements, and modal shift opportunities all combine to make this a very exciting project. We are looking forward to getting started with our integrated consultant team partners on this transformational scheme for the people of Belfast." Mike Mitchell, Project Director at Arup, said: "We are proud to be involved on this project that promises to make a pivotal contribution to Belfast's active travel infrastructure, with a new link across the River Lagan downstream of the existing Lagan Weir bridge. In connecting the historic Sailortown district with the Titanic Quarter via an opening bridge, the uninterrupted active travel corridor from the Lagan Gateway will be extended, whilst also providing stronger links to the recently upgraded York Street train station."

As M&A ramps up, Cumming Group acquires LeftField

As M&A ramps up, Cumming Group acquires LeftField. The move, which comes amid a flurry of acquisition activity, doubles Cumming Group's size in the New England region. Dive brief: * Amid an uptick in deal activity across construction, New York City-based construction cost consulting firm Cumming Group announced Oct. 30 it has acquired LeftField, a project management consulting firm. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. * The merger will double Cumming Group's size in the region and strengthen its ability to serve both public and private clients in the Northeast, according to the firm. The addition of LeftField's 60-plus personnel expands Cumming Group's headcount to over 150 professionals in New England and 2,850 total. * Headquartered in Boston, LeftField operates as an owner's project manager across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Connecticut in the K-12 education sector, with additional experience in higher education, life sciences and municipal projects, per the news release. Dive insight: As a result of the merger, Cumming Group says it is now one of the region's largest independent project management companies, per the announcement. LeftField will maintain its brand and identity, according to Jessica Busch-Garrett, senior director of public relations for Cumming Group, until the two firms fully integrate. "Cumming Group and LeftField have a tight-knit culture of dedicated team members and a strong set of common values," said Jim Rogers, founder and principal of LeftField, in the news release. "We've already begun collaborating on projects, and this partnership expands our capabilities by bringing clients a broader suite of integrated services including cost management, scheduling, and project controls." LeftField has managed public-sector capital programs that include schools, athletic facilities, public safety facilities and community centers, according to the announcement. It has also aided clients who were engaged in complex commercial developments such as research laboratories and mixed-use higher educational facilities. "Collectively, we will continue to deliver best-in-class services - shaping the future of education, research, and community infrastructure across the Northeast," said Derek Hutchison, Cumming Group's president and CEO, in the news release. Cumming Group and LeftField make the move amid a rise in construction merger and acquisition activity. Zachry Construction, for example, acquired Plano, Texas-based Crescent Constructors on Sept. 30 to zero in on the Texas water project market. On the West Coast, San Francisco-based builder Webcor made a deal to acquire GCON on Oct. 17, a construction management firm that worked on mission critical, data center and semiconductor projects. Meanwhile, Canadian infrastructure giant WSP reportedly made a multibillion-dollar bid for Dallas-based Jacobs, according to an Oct. 24 report from StreetInsider. This isn't Cumming Group's only move in the M&A space this year, either. In April, it merged with World Wide Professional Services, a Phoenix-based semiconductor advisory firm, to target the domestic fab market.
