  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced daily news environment.
  • Five years of comparable and relevant experience that demonstrates knowledge of the industry is preferred.
  • Ability to lead complex teams and work independently with superior problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong, original stories that meet audience needs.
  • A proven track record of connecting with local communities.
  • Superior writing skills across platforms, with experience gathering, editing and packaging audio and video.
  • Ability to present stories live on-air from within the studio and in the field.
  • Ability to assign teams and manage media assets.
  • Knowledge of emerging storytelling formats and willingness to embrace new tasks across CBC platforms.
  • Familiarity and proven connections with Black, Indigenous and People of Colour communities, people living with a disability, and other underrepresented communities in British Columbia and across Canada.
  • Community connections and knowledge of the Kamloops area, the Cariboo region, and British Columbia, including relevant stories and issues.
  • A university degree in journalism or equivalent, with a minimum of three years of recent, related experience.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours as required.
  • Successful completion of a mandatory criminal record check.
  • Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
Responsibilities
  • Produce the morning radio program Daybreak Kamloops.
  • Assign stories to journalists.
  • Pitch, research, gather, and produce original story ideas for audio, video, and social media programming.
  • Collaborate with Coordinating Producers of News and other teams to lead and deliver live and developing coverage across multiple platforms.
  • Work with local and regional news teams to respond quickly to breaking news events.
  • Vet others’ work to ensure accuracy, fairness, balance, and compliance with CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Cultivate and develop working relationships with contacts and community members.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across CBC to develop and break stories, plan and produce features, and coordinate long-term coverage.
  • Develop backgrounds, introductions, and lines of questioning; conduct or arrange necessary research; and brief hosts.
  • Maintain contact files.
  • Assign and create content for digital platforms as required.
  • Participate in evaluating all aspects of production.
  • Adhere to CBC Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Perform administrative duties supporting Kamloops station operations, including office supplies and building issues, with support from the Executive Producer of the British Columbia Interior and North.
  • Train and develop new employees and interns.
