Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Recreation or a related field is required, although experience may be substituted for the degree.
  • An American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification is required, or the ability to obtain it within six months.
  • One year of supervisory experience is required.
  • One year of recreation programming experience is required.
  • The schedule varies and includes early mornings, evenings, weekends, large events, changing facility schedules, and facility coverage.
  • The position requires exposure to fumes and chemicals, exposure to extreme temperatures, lifting up to 50 pounds, wearing a uniform, and approximately 5% local travel.
  • Successful completion of reference and background screening is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with hiring and onboarding part-time and seasonal staff.
  • Oversee day-to-day aquatic facility operations, including scheduling part-time and seasonal staff to support programming.
  • Supervise part-time and seasonal staff through training, evaluation, coaching, and disciplinary actions when needed.
  • Create, provide, and support aquatic programs for patrons, ensuring that programs are marketed, implemented, and evaluated effectively.
  • Develop and administer program operating budgets, including program fees, equipment, and staffing needs.
  • Establish program fees and manage expenses to operate programs at prescribed cost-recovery levels.
  • Assist with marketing programs through the website, social media, and other marketing opportunities.
  • Assist in developing operating budgets for aquatic facilities and programming.
  • Develop and implement lifeguard in-service training and online training for facility policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and instruct American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Courses throughout the year.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations to promote district-wide programs.
  • Participate in department and district-wide meetings supporting strategic objectives and initiatives.
  • Participate in district-wide committees.
  • Maintain expertise in recreation program trends and issues by attending professional conferences and serving on professional committees.
  • Serve as the aquatics point person in the absence of the Aquatics Manager and Aquatics Specialist.
  • Provide support to the Aquatics Specialist and Aquatics Manager.
  • Perform other administrative responsibilities as assigned.
  • Make employment-related decisions or recommendations and formally evaluate employee performance.
