JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB SUMMARY:
The Charge Entry Specialist is responsible for accurately entering patient demographics and charges into the billing system to ensure timely and accurate claim submission. This role plays a crucial part in the medical billing process by reviewing and entering data from clinical documents and ensuring compliance with payer guidelines and company policies.

Duties/Responsibilities:
• Review patient encounter forms, operative notes, and other clinical documentation for completeness and accuracy.
• Enter charges into the billing software with attention to proper CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding.
• Verify insurance information and ensure correct billing of services.
• Identify and flag any missing or inconsistent information to prevent billing delays.
• Collaborate with coding and billing staff to resolve discrepancies.
• Meet daily, weekly, and monthly productivity and accuracy goals.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
• Stay updated on coding and billing guidelines, payer policies, and regulatory changes.
• Retrieve records daily from the hospital. Light travel required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Experience with insurance verification and claim submission.
• Knowledge of payer-specific billing requirements.
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or medical billing/coding certification preferred.
• 1+ years of experience in charge entry, medical billing, or related healthcare administrative role.
• Strong understanding of medical terminology CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS codes.
• Familiarity with HER/EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, eClinical Works).
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent data entry skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and SharePoint).
Physical Requirements:
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
