Applications are invited for an Assistant Professor position in the Gordon and Mary Cain Department of Chemical Engineering at Louisiana State University. We invite applicants with a doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering (or closely related fields) from recognized institutions and a proven record of academic accomplishment. Specific areas of interest include (but are not limited to) development of novel processes, reactions, separations and/or materials related to hydrogen including novel storage materials (adsorptive or absorptive), underground storage, or reversible hydrogenation using carriers such ammonia or hydrocarbons.
Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching courses in chemical engineering and to build a strong research program through independent and collaborative work. Successful candidates will benefit from LSU’s synchrotron facility (CAMD), and a new state-of-the-art transmission electron microscopy coming online in 2022.
The incumbent in this faculty position will have a part-time teaching load of undergraduate and/or graduate course in the subject of chemical engineering and a part-time research appointment. They are expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching courses in chemical engineering and to build a strong research program through independent and collaborative work.
45% Teach undergraduate and graduate chemical engineering courses.
45% Lead a recognized and sustainable research program, which results in procuring external funding and leads to publications in peer-reviewed journals, along with associated service in support of the research mission and reputation of the unit. Supervising graduate student research.
10% Provide service to LSU, the chemical engineering profession and the community.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in chemical engineering or equivalent degree in Chemical Engineering or closely related field. Ph.D. candidates will be considered, as long as the Ph.D. is obtained by August 15, 2024.
About the department: The Cain Department of Chemical Engineering is one of the first programs of its kind with roots in the Audubon Sugar School (1885).The Department recently relocated to a new building and benefits from a strong alumni base, over $25 million in endowments, and approximately $10 million in recent awards related to energy and sustainable chemical manufacturing.At present, the Departmentincludes 17 tenure and tenure-track professors (all with named professorships or chairs), 4 Professionals in Residence and 4 part-time or emeritus instructors.
LSU is a public land grant university founded in 1860 that currently serves over 35,000 students. The 1000 acre campus is located just south of downtown Baton Rouge (with a metro-area population over 750,000). Unique facilities include a synchrotron facility (Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices) the Shared Instrumentation Facility (including XPS, SEM and TEM tools), and the NanoFabrication Facility (including lithography, deposition and etch tools).
