Requirements
  • A strong track record of owning backend systems in production.
  • Strong full-stack technical skills with proficiency in Vue, Node, Go, and Ruby.
  • Deep experience with backend service design, including API design, data modeling, and database performance.
  • A track record of making sound technical trade-offs independently.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving environment where priorities can shift with campaign or launch timelines.
  • Clear written communication skills, including architecture proposals and design records that help distributed teams make progress asynchronously.
  • A practical and proactive approach to collaboration, with transferable experience welcomed from adjacent platform, data, or product engineering backgrounds.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs that support go-to-market and growth platforms.
  • Contribute across the stack, including frontend work, when a feature or project calls for it.
  • Contribute to technical direction for the systems owned by the role, including making build-versus-buy suggestions and evaluating trade-offs between speed and long-term maintainability.

  • Review code and designs from other engineers and provide feedback for peers.
  • Mentor junior engineers on the team.
  • Document system design decisions and backend architecture so other engineers can build on the work without the role holder present.
Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in a remote-first or distributed organization.
  • Experience mentoring other engineers and influencing technical direction beyond individual work.
  • Ability to explain technical trade-offs clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.

GitLab provides a unified DevOps platform that brings together the tools needed for software development, including code hosting, collaboration, CI/CD, issue tracking, and security, all in one application. It works by offering a single subscription-based platform where teams can plan, write, test, review, and deploy code through automated pipelines, reducing the need to manage separate tools. This differs from many competitors that require using a collection of separate products; GitLab consolidates these capabilities into one integrated solution, helping teams work more efficiently. The company’s goal is to help organizations speed up software delivery and improve collaboration by simplifying the DevOps process and continuously updating the platform with new features and improvements.

GitLab releases single-tenant AI and security suite for regulated enterprises

GitLab has released version 19.3 and expanded its Duo Agent Platform, allowing enterprises to run agentic AI inside single-tenant environments whilst managing credentials across their software development lifecycle. The update enables regulated organisations to deploy AI and security workflows within strict audit boundaries through GitLab Dedicated environments. The move addresses compliance requirements for data-sensitive customers but introduces potential complexity and cost challenges as the company scales AI features. GitLab's investment case hinges on whether AI tools like Duo Agents can drive upgrades and usage amid intense competition and slowing customer growth. The company's narrative projects $1.5 billion revenue and $186.3 million earnings by 2029, requiring 15.3% yearly revenue growth.
