Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a commercial or technical field.
  • Five to ten years of successful, demonstrable sales or business development experience in advanced technology industries, with strong engineering understanding.
  • Experience in electrical systems, solar or photovoltaic design, or related fields.
  • A proven track record of managing large, complex customers in cross-functional matrix environments with lengthy design, qualification, and project sales cycles across multiple decision-makers.
  • Understanding of and prior engagement with utilities, independent power producers, end users, and the broader United States energy sector.
  • Understanding of utility grid operations, power plants, energy transmission and delivery, and associated services.
  • An influential network of senior-level industry contacts, understanding of market trends and industry drivers, and familiarity with full system technology roadmaps.
  • Knowledge of strategic and solutions selling and large account management experience.
  • Presentation, negotiation, organizational, interpersonal, communication, time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce, SharePoint, and standard industry management programs.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently in a remote team structure with strong initiative, discipline, and self-management.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 50%.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage key accounts within the assigned territory, focusing on utility-scale photovoltaic and battery energy storage system opportunities.
  • Build and maintain senior-level relationships with independent power producers, engineering, procurement, and construction companies, developers, utilities, and other energy-sector decision-makers.
  • Develop long-term strategic plans to capture market share and maximize sales revenue within the assigned territory.
  • Execute a complex solutions-selling approach at the executive level to drive technology alignment and forward roadmap development.
  • Develop comprehensive short- and long-term sales strategies to maximize business capture across the customer base.
  • Develop business cases and strategic plans that feed market input, industry data, and customer requirements into internal business-unit product and solutions development cycles.
  • Own, drive, and manage the monthly pipeline business forecast and address issues for successful and timely resolution.
  • Implement and improve sales cycles, systems, and processes to drive effectiveness and profitability.
  • Collaborate with sales, product management, engineering, and service teams to align technical requirements and customer needs.
  • Maintain accurate customer activity and pipeline records in customer relationship management systems and provide direct management reporting.
  • Attend relevant trade shows, conferences, seminars, and industry events.
  • Travel to Rocklin-based offices, trade shows, customer meetings, and SMA headquarters in Kassel, Germany as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree or post-graduate certification in renewable energy or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in Spanish.
  • Experience with renewable energy, utility-scale solar, or battery energy storage solutions.
