Requirements
  • An Associate of Arts degree in a related discipline is required.
  • Three to five years of technical experience as a designer is required.
  • Proficiency in a three-dimensional computer-aided design modeling package is required; SolidWorks is preferred.
  • Experience designing fiberglass and plastic parts is preferred.
  • Experience designing sheet metal parts, castings, forgings, and extrusions for manufacture is required.
  • Strong experience creating detailed drawings and working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing are required.
  • Experience creating and maintaining parts and bill-of-material information in an enterprise resource planning system is required.
  • Experience creating original system requirements and specifications is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Applicants must be able to perform precision work requiring manual dexterity and stability, see details at close range, lift up to 50 pounds, read work instructions and drawings, and traverse facilities and machinery by lifting, walking, bending, twisting, and carrying materials.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft PowerPoint is required.
Responsibilities
  • Create product designs under the direction of a design engineer that meet manufacturing processes, government regulations, industry-recognized standards, and customer requirements.
  • Generate computer-aided design models, layouts, installation drawings, and part-detail drawings with appropriate tolerances and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing specifications, and execute release activities through the release cycle.
  • Maintain parts lists, standard build configuration lists, and the computer-aided design database throughout the product life cycle.
  • Complete assigned tasks on schedule from concept through production implementation.
  • Apply robust problem-solving to improve product designs, component performance, and styling, and resolve purchasing and manufacturing issues with emphasis on quality, reliability, delivery, and cost.
  • Work with manufacturing and procurement development partners to implement design changes and achieve the desired component manufacturing route, design performance, and cost.
  • Ensure designs meet component or system design requirements and specifications.
  • Prepare new concept designs and sketches and evaluate the feasibility of design solutions.
  • Perform miscellaneous project-related assignments.
