Requirements
  • Completion of high school.
  • A minimum of one year of related experience or customer service experience.
  • Experience with money handling is an asset.
  • Experience in office administration.
  • Experience using general office equipment, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Previous fundraising and supervisory experience.
  • A valid driver's license, personal vehicle, required insurance, and a satisfactory driver's abstract are required.
  • Experience working with and leading volunteers is an asset.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced office setting, with attention to detail, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to lift or move 9 to 12 kilograms (20 to 25 pounds).
  • Strong customer service, communication, listening, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to comply with occupational health and safety legislation and organizational policies.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when handling donor, volunteer, and organizational information.
  • Ability and willingness to successfully complete applicable screening and background checks, including the Salvation Army Abuse Registry screening.
  • Ability and willingness to understand and support The Salvation Army's mission and purpose in Canada.
Responsibilities
  • Attend required training and orientation for The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
  • Transport kettles to zone locations before staff or volunteers arrive and retrieve them after shifts or the campaign ends.
  • Ensure donations are delivered to secure locations and remain secure throughout each shift.
  • Communicate daily issues and supply deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Orient staff and volunteers on proper kettle handling and duties.
  • Supervise, support, and assign staff and volunteers throughout the campaign.
  • Visit locations during shift changes and intermittently during operations.
  • Ensure timesheets and mileage reports are submitted accurately and weekly.
  • Remain at kettles for full shifts until relieved, including coverage for breaks when required.
  • Respond to donor questions about Salvation Army ministries and programs.
  • Promote, coordinate, and oversee Christmas Kettle Campaign Worker activities.
  • Oversee campaign operations, including staff and volunteer orientation, scheduling, and support.
  • Participate in recruiting kettle worker staff and volunteers.
  • Conduct orientation and performance management for kettle worker staff and volunteers.
  • Coordinate schedules and respond to emergency absences.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with kettle sites.
  • Coordinate with volunteers, clubs, churches, and businesses to fill volunteer positions.
  • Promote the campaign through community presence, social media, and phone calls.
  • Maintain relationships with management and leadership at kettle locations and act as a liaison.
  • Prepare bank deposits and track and record statistical data.
  • Ensure kettle locations have adequate literature and other supplies.
  • Support other Christmas programming, including food and toy programs, when needed.
  • Provide post-campaign support for transition to future campaigns.
  • Thank donors, volunteers, and partners and invite them to appreciation events.
  • Represent The Salvation Army in a positive and professional manner.
  • Report directly to senior leadership and the Corps Officer.
  • Collect donations and petty cash and ensure donations are kept secure.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
