Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to wear company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Must qualify on the Physical Test Battery and Work Orientation Inventory tests as applicable before interviewing.
  • Must be able to lift and maneuver up to 90 pounds.
  • Must pass the Utility Worker Training course during the first three weeks of employment.
  • Must be able to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays when required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class C California Driver's License or higher by the first day of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class A California Driver's License Permit within three months of hire.
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather extremes.
  • Must be able to drive safely in all weather and road conditions.
  • Must be able to travel and transfer to a new headquarters throughout the PG&E service territory upon request.
  • Must be able to pass a post-offer physical assessment.
  • Must be able to pass a medical assessment to wear respirator protection when needed around gaseous or hazardous atmospheres.
Responsibilities
  • Work safely according to PG&E safety standards and procedures.
  • Follow the direction of the journeyman, crew lead, or supervisor.
  • Read and comply with required company standards and procedures.
  • Work in a team environment.
  • Hand-excavate in an ergonomically safe manner.
  • Load and unload equipment, materials, and job-site debris, and maintain housekeeping according to PG&E safety standards and procedures.
  • Perform construction and maintenance on gas lines and underground electric infrastructure.
  • Maintain tools and equipment.
  • Perform traffic-control functions under the direction of a Gas Crew Leader when required.
  • Contribute to Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability, and affordability for asset families and life cycles.
  • Perform pipe-wrapping duties.
  • Assist with construction, maintenance, and other miscellaneous semi-skilled work.
  • Perform semi-skilled work assisting a higher-classified employee.
  • Perform DOT operations, maintenance, and emergency duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience in construction, including underground utility work, trenching equipment, welding, carpentry, plumbing, pipefitting, farm or ranch work, or landscaping.
  • Class A driver's license with tanker endorsement.
  • Working experience with natural gas systems.
  • Knowledge of pipeline coating.
  • Previous military experience.
  • Graduation from a PowerPathway program.
  • Current or past work experience with PG&E or a Hiring Hall.
  • Residence within 50 miles of the headquarters location.
