- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school is required, or at least one year of verifiable and applicable Certified Medical Assistant work experience in a patient-care setting.
- Current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification is required.
- Current certification or registration as a Medical Assistant through an accepted agency is required, including CCMA, CMA, CMAC, NCMA, NRCMA, NRCAMA, or RMA credentials.
- Demonstrated competency in the specific tasks and skills defined by the practice is required.
- Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of patients are required.
- Awareness of medical and legal issues, patient rights, and regulatory and accrediting standards is required.
- Perform patient care under the direction of a physician or Advanced Practice Provider in an ambulatory setting.
- Participate in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process-improvement activities.
- Communicate professionally with patients and family members and collaborate with administrative and operations staff.
- Gather patient data through interviews and observation.
- Prepare patients and families for examinations.
- Assist the physician or Advanced Practice Provider during examinations and procedures.
- Provide routine treatments and administer approved medication types.
- Document patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to organizational and department policies.
- Act as a patient liaison by scheduling specialty testing and physician consultations and providing scheduling information.
- Process incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using clinical judgment.
- Enter medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under provider direction.
- Follow organizational and department policies, procedures, value statements, quality standards, safety practices, and infection-control standards.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance and compliance with organizational policies.
- Use supplies efficiently.
- Assist the business office with reception, scheduling, and patient discharge as needed.
