Job Introduction
The Circulation department of dmg media is the engine room of the Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday’s and The i Paper’s route to market and deals daily with all aspects of the supply chain.
The department comprises 10 people and looks after the following key areas: supply management, wholesale & retail account management, logistics & production planning, print subscriptions, newspaper sales analysis and circulation compliance.
Between them, the team ensure that our newspapers are allocated, produced and delivered efficiently and profitably every day to wholesalers and retailers across the UK; that the business has access to the latest market intelligence and sales trends; and that monthly circulation figures are independently audited and approved for commercial use.
The Circulation team work closely with Marketing colleagues on promotions, competitions and offers that support circulation performance.
The Circulation Information Executive role is a key part of the department’s data, insight and reporting function, maintaining detailed databases, preparing reports and supporting the business with regular sales and product information.
Main Responsibilities
- Calculating accurate daily sales estimates for the Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday and The i Paper, based on regular data received from the supply chain and using available business intelligence tools
- Gathering market intelligence on competitors, estimating sales figures and ensuring this information is captured and maintained correctly and effectively for reporting
- Preparing and circulating regular reports and analysis to the business on the above, updating regular commentary and key points
- Tracking and measuring different aspects of newspaper sales performance to agreed methodologies to support tactical initiatives and requirements
- Tracking and measuring different aspects of print subscriber performance to support the team’s understanding of agreed KPIs
- Work closely with the Head of Circulation Performance to analyse and interpret sales performance, to support or contribute to discussions with Circulation, Editorial and Marketing on key metrics and underlying trends
- Investigate and address data anomalies and help implement solutions to correct going forward
- Provide reporting and statistics on in-paper competition entries, including winning entries where required
- Prepare and co-ordinate detailed subscription voucher information to agreed deadlines and ensure accurate communication to external trade partners
- Undertake regular validation of voucher redemption data to ensure anomalies are actioned or raised appropriately
- Work closely with the team to support new commercial and tactical initiatives on print subscriptions, through the provision of relevant product and subscriber information
This role will require the successful candidate to:
- Liaise effectively with teams and individuals at different levels of the business
- Organise and maintain data accurately from an array of sources to translate into information
- Follow agreed analytical processes and succinctly summarise key findings
- Respond to and manage stakeholder requests to agreed deadlines
- Prepare and update regular reports and presentations
- Work calmly and accurately in a dynamic, fast-moving operations department
Person Specification
- An enthusiastic, committed self-starter who is comfortable working on their own initiative and as part of a team
- Excellent attention to detail and a thorough approach to their work
- Excellent time-management and a high-level of personal organisation
- Excellent problem-solving skills with an inquisitive approach and desire to learn
- Highly numerate with an interest in spotting trends in data
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to summarise technical subjects to a non-technical audience
- Experience of Microsoft Excel, with the ability to understand simple formula
- Any experience/knowledge of running MS Access or SQL code would also be an advantage, but full training will be provided
