Requirements
  • Masters degree in engineering or relevant discipline
  • At least 10 years of working experience, with at least 3 years in a space field
  • More than 5 years of policy experience, ideally at a senior government level
  • Experience developing, managing, and overseeing complex programmes and projects with public and private stakeholders with value exceeding >50 MEUR
  • Clear understanding of the challenges related to Space commercialisation in Europe and the mission of the European Space Agency
  • Fluent in English
  • Experience in relevant areas such as commercialisation, technology transfer, application, and/or technology assessment and intellectual property (advantage)
  • Experience in management teams spread across multiple locations
  • Familiarity with the services provided by the European Space Agency (asset)
  • Experience in foresight studies/projects (asset)

Responsibilities
  • Support the MDS Service organise the service so that it complements the work of the European Space Agency programme in-Space Transportation, enabling the commercial operating model to be designed along technical derisking activities
  • Support and advise the European Space Agency Technical Responsible and the In-Space Transportation Lead on the options available to ensure proper governance of this work, enabling adequate oversight and participation of key external and internal actors
  • Assess and evaluate business cases submitted by industrial partners/companies participating in the In-Space Transportation Programme
  • Assist in the design and development of innovative business models required for the success of the In-Space Transportation system delivered by commercial and non-commercial partners
  • Engage with key stakeholders at European and national levels to identify regulatory requirements essential for supporting future In-Space Transportation markets in Europe
  • Carry out required analyses to determine funding requirements at company, infrastructure, government, or other appropriate level to deliver In-Space Transportation services on a commercially sustainable basis
  • Work with experts within and outside ESA to determine capital models required and how they can be delivered to ensure suitable public and private financing for the In-Space Transportation sector
  • Engage with various ESA programme leads and project heads, and procurement experts and specialists, to determine how ESA may leverage its role as a procuring agency to seed demand for future In-Space Transportation services
  • Carry out analyses to successfully deliver the areas under this work package, including identifying and managing suitable external partners/consultancies/experts for further analysis as required
  • Identify other programmes or projects for high relevance in delivering a commercial operating model for In-Space Transportation and onboard them as part of the MDS effort

Sopra Steria acquires Digital Product Simulation for $13.6M to boost PLM capabilities

Sopra Steria has completed its acquisition of Digital Product Simulation through its CIMPA subsidiary, expanding the European technology group's product lifecycle management and digital engineering capabilities. Financial terms were not disclosed. Digital Product Simulation provides simulation and PLM solutions to industrial customers, supporting companies in digitally designing, testing and managing complex products throughout their lifecycles. The business generated approximately €12 million in revenue under IFRS during 2025 and employs over 115 engineers specialising in digital simulation and PLM systems. The acquisition strengthens Sopra Steria's ability to offer end-to-end PLM services and expands its capabilities involving Dassault Systèmes' 3DEXPERIENCE platform. The acquired team will join CIMPA, Sopra Steria's PLM-focused subsidiary. Sopra Steria expects the acquisition to enhance support for industrial companies in aviation, defence and nuclear energy sectors.

Sopra Steria completes $45M share buyback programme

Sopra Steria has completed a €40 million share buyback programme announced in May 2026. Between 27 May and 29 July 2026, the European tech company purchased 271,471 shares at an average price of €147.35 per share. The buyback represents 1.4% of shares outstanding. The repurchased shares are intended to be retired. Sopra GMT, the group's management holding company, will ensure it does not exceed 30% of voting rights following the retirement by converting shares to bearer shares. Sopra Steria employs 51,000 people across nearly 30 countries and generated revenues of €5.6 billion in 2025. The company provides consulting, digital services and solutions to clients across Europe.

Sopra Steria raises full-year growth target as H1 revenue hits $3.3B

Sopra Steria reported revenue of €2,958.9 million for the first half of 2026, up 4.1% in total. Organic growth reached 3.0%, with underlying organic growth at 4.9%. The company's operating margin on business activity improved to 9.6%, compared to 9.2% in the first half of 2025. Net profit attributable to the group rose 3.0% to €146.3 million. Underlying organic growth accelerated in Q2 to 5.3%, up from 4.4% in Q1. Free cash flow stood at -€143.6 million, a slight improvement from -€145.9 million in the same period last year. Based on these results and second-half outlook, Sopra Steria revised its full-year organic revenue growth target upward whilst confirming other targets.

Sopra Steria appoints Laura Chaubard to lead Defence, Security and Space vertical

Sopra Steria has appointed Laura Chaubard to lead its Defence, Security and Space vertical, effective 1 September 2026. A graduate of École Polytechnique and former director general of the institution, Chaubard will join the group's executive committee. The vertical accounted for 13% of Sopra Steria's revenue in 2025 and serves armed forces, governments and critical infrastructure. The appointment comes as Europe increases defence and security spending whilst seeking strategic autonomy from non-European players. In May 2026, Sopra Steria acquired Starion and Nexova, strengthening its capabilities in space and cybersecurity. The company's subsidiary CS Group is a recognised integrator of critical defence and security systems.

Sopra Steria and Red Hat partner to deploy sovereign AI on edge devices for defence and critical infrastructure

Sopra Steria has extended its strategic collaboration with Red Hat to industrialise sovereign-ready embedded AI for deployment from data centres to constrained field equipment. Announced at Eurosatory, the initiative targets environments where AI is most critical, including defence systems, public services and critical infrastructure. The solution addresses the challenge of moving AI from proof of concept to reliable field operation. Red Hat provides open building blocks whilst Sopra Steria integrates, secures and operates them as a deployable system. The platform uses Red Hat OpenShift AI for model training, Red Hat Device Edge for lightweight models on field equipment, and Red Hat Edge Manager for automated maintenance across device fleets. Applications include transport fleet logistics, public terminal infrastructure, and regulated communications, enabling real-time processing whilst maintaining operational continuity during connectivity disruptions.
