Currier Plastics girds for growth with private equity support. Sheridan Capital Partners has acquired the custom blow and injection molding company serving the medtech sector. Under new leadership, Currier said it will execute on organic growth initiatives and strategic M&A. Nadzeya Haroshka/iStock via Getty Images Custom blow and injection molding company Currier Plastics has been acquired by Sheridan Capital Partners it was announced today. The Chicago-based private equity firm focuses on lower middle market buyouts and growth equity in the healthcare space, and has named Andrew McLean as the new CEO of Currier Plastics. Cleanroom molding capabilities. Founded in 1982 and based in Auburn, NY, Currier has developed an excellent reputation for its technical capabilities and service to blue-chip customers in healthcare and other highly demanding and regulated end-markets, said Sheridan in the announcement. Currier molds tight-tolerance custom components in ISO Class 7 and Class 8 cleanrooms and also offers value-added services such as design engineering, material selection, and assembly. Currier founder and CEO john Currier said that Sheridan's expertise in consumer health and medical products makes it an ideal partner to build on the company's legacy. "The healthcare expertise Sheridan brings will be invaluable as we look to execute on organic growth initiatives and strategic M&A. In addition, this partnership and the leadership of our incoming CEO Andrew McLean will enable us to continue to invest in the talent and operational resources to continue providing world-class products and services to our growing customer base across multiple end markets," said Currier. Industry veteran takes the helm. McLean has more than 25 years of leadership experience in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries. Previous positions include CEO and president of medical device and pharmaceutical product design and contract manufacturer SteriPack Group, and CEO of Sirtex, a manufacturer of minimally invasive interventional oncology solutions. Earlier in his career, McLean held a number of senior sales, marketing, and business development roles at BD and Pfizer. "Currier's excellent reputation for quality, technical capabilities and customer service have been established over decades. I look forward to continuing and growing this legacy," said McLean. Mixed outlook for medtech M&A activity in 2025. Coming off a challenging 2024 for M&A activity in the medtech space, analysts expressed cautious optimism for 2025. Although activity decreased slightly in the first quarter of this year compared with Q4 2024, the upfront value of the deals increased dramatically from $2.7 billion to $9.2 billion, according to global law firm Morrison Foerster. Notably, Thermo Fisher Scientific recently announced that it will acquire Solventum's purification and filtration business for $4.1 billion, with the deal expected to close by year-end, reported Morrison Foerster. Earlier this year, Ingersoll Rand acquired Ireland-based Dave Barry Plastics, a specialized manufacturer of plastic products for the life science and healthcare industries. The acquisition represents a strategic expansion of Ingersoll Rand's capabilities in the critical cleanroom manufacturing sector. Nevertheless, headwinds abound that could put a strain on M&A activity. Morrison Foerster cites persistent concerns around inflation, geopolitical tensions, and policy shifts. The Trump administration's investigation into imposing Section 232 tariffs on a range of medical devices, which was made public last week, has also raised concerns in the medtech sector. Medical technology industry lobbyist AdvaMed issued a statement in response to the investigation stressing the world-leading home-grown medical innovation of a "robust and uniquely American industry" that will continue to thrive with a sound economic policy. "Lower tariffs will fuel more manufacturing and job growth in the US," argued AdvaMed.
