- Certification as a Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician.
- Proficiency in both areas of Central Sterile.
- A High School Diploma.
- Ability to perform work requiring eye, hand, and foot coordination for most of a normal workday.
- Disassemble, clean, and decontaminate instrumentation in the Operating Room and Central Processing area.
- Decontaminate, clean, inspect, process, and assemble surgical instrumentation for the Operating Room, Central Processing area, and durable patient care equipment.
- Operate prevacuum steam sterilizers, gas plasma sterilizers, washer sterilizers, and decontaminators; test sterilizers and maintain accurate records.
- Apply cleaning protocols for particular instruments and use cleaning agents and detergents appropriately.
- Visually inspect instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and wear before assembly.
- Assemble instrument trays and equipment according to the assembly directory.
- Wrap or pouch items according to the size and type of instrument or equipment using appropriate wrapping techniques.
- Run internal, external, and biological tests and read and interpret parameters for all types of sterilizers to ensure proper function.
- Oversee junior personnel in the absence of the Supervisor.
- Perform minor equipment troubleshooting and determine when professional service technicians are needed.
- Maintain a constant supply of reusable sterile linen.
- Maintain and distribute sterile supplies.
- Greet and receive customers and answer the phone.
- Practice Universal Precautions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
