- Graduate of an accredited nursing program or education equivalency for licensing.
- Be eligible to practice as determined by the State Board of Nursing.
- Have one year of experience or less working as a registered nurse; no experience is required.
- For Illinois, provide an official passing score on National Council Licensure Examination results.
- Hold Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
- Meet the applicable state-specific registered nurse, National Council Licensure Examination, temporary permit, or licensing requirements for the state of work location.
- Under the direction of the registered nurse preceptor, perform delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence in nursing care activities for the population served.
- Perform patient assessments, including biophysical, psychosocial, spiritual, cultural, age-appropriate, nutrition, pain-management, and abuse-or-neglect assessments, to develop, evaluate, and modify patient care plans.
- Develop comprehensive patient and family education plans using appropriate resources and instructional methods, and provide patient and family health education and coaching.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation, including processing physician orders where applicable, in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Monitor and evaluate nursing care delivered by team members based on patient needs and professional judgment.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding all aspects of patient care.
- Participate in training to understand and perform patient care where required.
- Complete competency requirements satisfactorily where required.
- Complete required training and seek assistance and ask questions as needed to learn and understand the role.
- Demonstrate professional nursing standards defined in the professional practice model and use the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide responses to patient and population health needs where required.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner where required.
- Participate in the SSM Health New Graduate Nurse Residency Program.
