Requirements
  • Mastery of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications.
  • Mastery of technical and analytical skills, including principles relating to electrical voltage and current, digital and analog signals, and basic information technology networking topologies and protocols as they relate to low-voltage systems design for buildings.
  • Strong training, mentoring, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to perform final quality control checks in the area of expertise.

  • Professional Engineer license.
  • At least 14 years of experience in the building design consulting industry.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% with occasional overnight stays.
  • Proficiency in the technical aspects of the discipline.
  • Ability to mentor, train, motivate, and lead others.
  • Proficiency in Building Information Modeling software.
Responsibilities
  • Lead design efforts for the analysis of information technology structured cabling, audio/video, security, and other low-voltage building systems.
  • Use engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and company standards.
  • Perform site assessments and generate detailed analysis and technical reports.
  • Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information.
  • Provide in-process design reviews of low-voltage building systems, calculations, and specifications.
  • Implement quality control processes to ensure designs meet company standards, industry standards, and client requirements.
  • Provide technical training and mentoring and assist in resolving field issues.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in low-voltage technology engineering.
  • Lead research, development, and innovation efforts.
  • Identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with low-voltage technology systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Lead project interviews and presentations.
  • Coordinate, oversee, and manage projects and serve as the point of contact for teams and clients.
  • Collaborate with business development staff, project executives, client executives, and market leaders during project opportunities.
  • Assist with design scopes of work, fee calculations, and proposal generation.
  • Assist with contract reviews.
  • Create project schedules with milestone and deadline targets.
  • Create monthly billings, submit financial information to Accounting, and update billing projections and estimated completion percentages.
  • Ensure designs follow owner requirements, company standards, and code requirements; ensure milestone deliverables, quality control, and construction technical support are completed.
  • Coordinate design staff and project scheduling during design and construction phases; lead progress meetings and document meetings.
  • Respond to and resolve client and construction concerns, manage change orders, and obtain approvals.
  • Train, mentor, and motivate staff.
  • Build, maintain, and develop client relationships.

By: QCBJ News Staff | September 2, 2026 Quad Cities-based IMEG has acquired Bennett Engineering Inc., a multidisciplinary engineering firm in Maine that specializes in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, telecommunications, and lighting design services, according to a news release made available Tuesday, Sept. 1. The acquisition became effective as of Tuesday. Bennett Engineering's long-standing focus on energy-efficient design, community impact, and employee growth aligns with IMEG's values and people-centered culture, IMEG said. Founded in Freeport, Maine, Bennett Engineering brings more than 40 years of client-focused engineering project experience across the country. The firm serves key markets including commercial, industrial, and institutional clients, combining technical expertise with practical, efficient, and reliable system solutions for new construction and renovation projects.
