  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • A certificate or associate degree as a dental assistant from a Commission on Dental Accreditation-accredited program of the American Dental Association is required, or certification from a military dental technician or dental assistant school, or certification from a Red Cross Dental Assistant course.
  • At least one year of experience within the preceding 36 months is required.
  • Certification in radiography is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with complex or difficult restorative, prosthodontic, oral surgical, endodontic, and periodontal treatment.
  • Receive and schedule patients for treatment.
  • Obtain and record patients' medical histories, chart examination and treatment information, and record prescription information.
  • Sterilize instruments, materials, and equipment; prepare surgical trays; and maintain dental equipment in clean, operative condition.
  • Assist the dentist chairside and perform intraoral procedures as directed, including taking preliminary impressions, removing sutures, and placing or removing rubber dams, periodontal packs, matrix bands, and wedges.
  • Relay the dentist's post-treatment care instructions to patients and instruct patients on dental techniques, appliance care, and causes of dental decay.
  • Operate dental X-ray equipment to take intraoral and extraoral radiographs, and maintain, clean, and perform minor repairs on X-ray equipment and materials.
  • Pour and trim models from impressions and construct custom impression trays.
  • Maintain recurring reports related to dental activities.
  • Use Dentrix and MHS Genesis to enter patient-specific workload and readiness status and schedule patients.
