Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in in English, communications, a technical field such as IT, or related related work experience and certifications
  • 5+ years of experience in technical writing or a related field
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a public trust
  • U.S. citizenship required (required by Federal government for the position).
Responsibilities
  • Research highly technical subject matter and create communications materials which are clear and understandable to a wide audience.
  • Produce complex technical documentation (e.g., writing, editing, layout, design) such as detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs), IT governance policies, technical slide decks, comprehensive technical user guides, and other technical resources.
  • Create, maintain, and publish IT communications and resources, such as templates, case studies, user guides, job aids, orientation materials, white papers, executive level briefings, policies, non-technical standard operating procedures, trainings, and other project documentation as needed.
  • Support project intake and scoping requirements to identify the level of effort and priority for tasks.
  • Create and maintain customer-facing-platform knowledge base with IT governance materials.
  • Evaluate technical documentation for user-friendliness and completeness.
  • Identify gaps in documentation and develop plans to address them.
  • Provide technical input, editorial support, and proofreading for communications materials and executive presentations.
  • Establish rapport and working relationships with clients, leadership executives, and subject matter experts and work with Help Desks to uncover needs.
  • Develop training recommendations to clients, producing guides and job aids using software such as Snagit, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and others.
  • Develop and deliver short-term and long-term documentation plans, explaining the schedule and prioritization of communications for those who develop, deploy and use technical applications; make recommendations to the client on how best to deliver products in documentation plan(s).
  • Maintain backlog of technical and communications documents using agile project management tools such as JIRA.
  • Apply U.S. Government Plain Language Standards to all work products; exhibit familiarity with ADA Section 508 Compliance.
  • Apply professional-grade formatting and branding to documents and presentations using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
