Requirements
- A Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, or an Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education, is preferred but not required.
- EEC Professional Teacher level or higher certification is required, or the candidate must be willing to become certified immediately.
- Applicants must provide a copy of their EEC Teacher Certification or proof of pending certification along with demonstrated eligibility.
- Candidates must have knowledge of and familiarity with the needs of families with young children.
- Candidates must have classroom management skills and oral and written language skills.
- Candidates must be able to use computers, the internet, and digital equipment for curriculum development, implementation, and related school activities.
- Candidates must be able to work independently and collaboratively and build relationships with stakeholders.
- Candidates must be able to work in person, perform daily outside playground duties, climb stairs or hills, continually bend, kneel, and reach, lift and carry young children weighing 20-30 pounds regularly, and frequently stoop, squat, or sit on the floor.
- Candidates must work during training week, usually the last week of August, and coordinate vacation periods with the Early Learning Center Director.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate regularly with co-teachers, colleagues, and the director to develop a high-quality program based on observations that support each child’s intellectual, social/emotional, moral, and physical development.
- Maintain the health, safety, and security of all children.
- Implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
- Communicate and document children’s interactions and experiences.
- Provide a positive, nurturing environment.
- Conduct observations, play-based assessments, and written evaluations of all children using COR Advantage.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality regarding children and families.
- Adhere to all EEC regulations and guidelines.
- Help each child develop a positive self-image.
- Facilitate each child’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth and development.
- Encourage children’s independence and sense of competency.
- Respect each child’s individuality and rights.
- Help children become aware of their own needs and the rights of others.
- Facilitate children’s verbalization of feelings and emotions.
- Provide a positive climate for learning, growth, and development.
- Comply with Massachusetts EEC guidelines and frameworks.
- Offer activities, materials, and experiences that encourage children to explore and learn through play.
- Maintain an aesthetically pleasing and organized classroom environment that promotes children’s health and safety.
- Set consistent limits using positive language and provide emotional safety for each child.
- Work with and incorporate suggestions from the Ledgewood Developmental Specialist.
- Assess children’s developmental stages and maintain records, including progress reports, using COR Advantage.
- Document children’s learning through portfolios, observational checklists, play-based assessments, digital photography or iPad documentation, journals, or other methods determined by the center director.
- Review and update classroom files, including allergies and special traits relevant to each child’s development.
- Meet for supervisory direction as appropriate.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
- Meet all EEC requirements for early education and care.
- Participate with co-teachers in regular planning, reflect on the program, and forecast future emergent-curriculum projects.
- Support an emergent curriculum approach and use the environment as the third teacher.
- Establish positive, interactive relationships with families through informal conversations, feedback, and conferences.
- Assist parents and children in adjusting to school.
- Inform parents about young children’s developmental stages and developmentally appropriate curriculum.
- Participate in scheduled parent conferences several times a year.
- Communicate daily with parents and maintain classroom newsletters.

- A Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field such as elementary education, social work, or psychology.
- Interest in continuing professional development and lifelong learning.
- Creative ability to translate ideas, feedback, and data into innovative experiences meeting family needs.
- Awareness of best practices that view children as competent and capable learners.
