Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements public engagement strategies to reach relevant stakeholders and gathers community feedback for related projects. Attends and facilitates Neighborhood Association meetings, plans and coordinates public meetings, delivers public presentations, produces promotional materials, prepares exhibits, and compiles and summarizes public input.
  • Provides design direction to consultant engineers using applicable design standards and guidelines from the City of Tucson, the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO), the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
  • Initiates projects by outlining and documenting the project scope, identifying opportunities and constraints. Assists with developing potential project timelines. Conducts fieldwork to evaluate existing conditions along project corridors, documents findings, and shares with City staff and consultant designers. Collaborates with consultant engineers to refine the project scope and schedule and negotiates design fees.
  • Monitors scopes, schedules, and budgets for capital projects throughout the planning process. Works with consultant designers to incorporate community feedback into project design.
  • Facilitates coordination among internal technical experts, manages plan reviews of preliminary designs, and collaborates with planning and engineering staff to develop practical solutions to design challenges.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Educational background in urban planning, civil engineering, landscape architecture, architecture, public health, or a closely related field.
  • Master’s degree in Planning, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Public Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Professional experience in developing multimodal transportation projects, with a focus on bicycle, pedestrian, and transit facilities.
  • Direct experience working with stakeholders and the public, including meeting facilitation, event planning and coordination, and delivering public presentations.
  • Working knowledge of design guidelines from the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO), American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), U.S. Access Board, and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), especially as they relate to Active Transportation and Complete Streets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, and experience using ArcGIS and/or Adobe Creative Suite for planning, analysis, and visual communication.
