Position purpose
The Junior Originator position is highly commercial, and requires high levels of communication skills and technical expertise in order to continue to develop EDF Trading’s efforts originating deals in the EP space.
While an initial understanding of EP markets and of EDF Trading and its role within the EDF Group is helpful, it is not a requirement for this role, as the successful candidate will be trained on the job.
Working with the Head of EP and other senior members of the team, the candidate will play a supporting role within the EP Desk; She/He will operate with both internal and external counterparties, individually and in support of the Desk Head. Key duties:
- Originating new deals with external and internal counterparties in the EP space
- Supporting existing EP clients, both external parties and companies within EDF Group
- Looking for new business ideas and structures that can bring a profit to EDFT
- Establishing contacts with new counterparties and onboarding them
- Increasing EDFT’s footprint in the Voluntary Carbon Market space, as well as in the area of International Renewable Energy Certificates (IRECs)
- Understanding the EP regulatory environment and staying abreast with developments and how they can impact present and future business of EDFT
- Supporting with reporting tasks of the EP desk, both in terms of position management and financial reporting
- Strengthening the relationship and finding synergies with the Group business in the EP space.
We are seeking a candidate who is eager to learn, dedicated to achieving team objectives, and possess a robust customer-centric approach. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work effectively in teams, collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders, and uphold strong risk and compliance ethics. Additionally, they must align with EDF Trading’s culture and adhere to its policies.
Main responsibilities
- Lead generation and development of potential counterparts through various channels including cold-calling, networking, email send-outs and research-related events.
- Develop and maintain relationships with both new and existing counterparts.
- Collaborate with trading desks, other originators and supporting teams to ensure smooth trade execution and efficient post-trade processes.
- Support day-to-day marketing efforts by assisting in the preparation of daily communications.
- Support in the compilation of reports after prospective or counterparty meetings and oversee the fulfilment of onboarding-related obligations.
- Assist in the creation of marketing materials such as PowerPoint presentations and spreadsheets.

Experience required
- 2 years of relevant experience gained with a Voluntary Carbon Market participant, carbon credit or Renewable Energy Certificate broker, carbon project developer, bank, carbon credit rating agency, or carbon market intelligence firm.
- Have a reasonable understanding of the Environmental Products markets that we trade in.
- Able to identify commercial opportunities and develop new business and relationships.
- Experience of working in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to develop new business from scratch and generate profitable trades for the company
Technical requirements
- Graduate qualification in business/marketing/sales preferred but not required

- Must speak English, any other European language will be a plus, particularly French and/or German.
- Must be based in London or willing to relocate.

- The role holder will be expected to be flexible in working style, have a strong ethos and work in partnership with other functions, including legal, credit, treasury, and trading to execute origination.
