Wawa to open third New Hanover County store near Pender County line. 1 hour ago WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) - Wawa is preparing to open its third New Hanover County location, this time in the northern part of the county near the Pender County line. The new store, located at 9010 Senca Drive in Wilmington, is scheduled to open Thursday, Sept. 17. It sits next to Novant Health Scotts Hill Medical Center, placing it close to the New Hanover-Pender county border. The location will be Wawa's first in northern New Hanover County and is positioned to serve customers traveling between New Hanover and Pender counties. The company says doors will open at 8 a.m., following a countdown beginning at 7:55 a.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and a hoagie-building competition between local first responders are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wawa says the first 250 customers will receive T-shirts while supplies last, and free hot coffee will be offered through Sept. 20. The opening continues the convenience store chain's expansion in southeastern North Carolina. Wawa says it plans to open six to eight stores annually in the state over the next eight to 10 years, with a long-term goal of about 90 locations statewide. The company says each new store employs an average of 35 workers once open. The Scotts Hill-area store follows two other Wawa locations already open in New Hanover County.

A new Wawa superstore just got approved in NJ, after a years-long traffic feud. * September 1, 2026 Tom Lavecchia A massive new Wawa superstore is poised to open on the border of Berlin Township and Voorhees Township after years of debate over its potential traffic impact. It's not entirely a done deal. Berlin Township Planning Board approved the store at an August 18 meeting, but Voorhees Township approval is still needed to move forward. The 5,915 square foot Wawa will sit on Route 73 near the Cooper Road intersection. It will include a gas station, a 55-space parking lot with spaces for oversized vehicles, and will be open 24 hours a day. Additionally, the project brings infrastructure improvements: extended left-turn lane on Cooper Road to ease congestion, extensive landscaping, and upgraded stormwater infrastructure. The fight that held it up. The path here was not an easy one. Voorhees Planning Board initially denied the application in December of 2025, citing concerns over potential traffic impact. This prompted a lawsuit by Developer Niki-J&J Voorhees Cooper Partners LLC, according to NJ.com. The court-approved settlement requires the application to go back before the Voorhees Planning Board. Until then, the project remains in limbo. If approved, it will join three other Wawas opening across the state in Upper Pittsgrove, Tinton Falls, and Barnegat. One thing is for certain. August 28, 2026 Wawa will celebrate the grand opening of its third Tennessee store Wednesday in Lebanon as the company continues expanding across the state. The new store, located at 1000 Murfreesboro Road, will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community celebration beginning at 8:30 a.m. The first 250 customers will receive a free limited-edition Wawa T-shirt, while free hot coffee of any size will be available to customers from Sept. 2-6. The celebration will also include Wawa's "Parade of the Ages," highlighting milestones from the company's 200-year history, appearances by Wally Goose and a "Hoagies for Heroes" competition between local police and fire departments. Wawa will donate $1,000 to each department's charity of choice. Wawa leaders will also discuss the company's continued investment and expansion in Tennessee. The company plans to open up to seven stores in Tennessee in 2026 and more than 50 stores across the state over the next 10 years. Wawa said each new location will create construction jobs and employ about 35 associates once open.
