McDonald's accused of committing a 'mortal sin' after axing £2.79 menu favourite. Published September 12, 2026 11:32am Updated September 12, 2026 11:32am Saying goodbye to summer can be hard. But as the weather turns colder and the mornings grow darker, there is at least one silver lining: our favourite autumnal drinks are back on the menu. Whether you're a classic pumpkin spice latte girly or prefer a forest gateau hot chocolate, there's a deliciously indulgent treat for everyone to enjoy. That is, unless you're a die-hard fan of McDonald's signature Toffee Latte... Customers were recently left 'devastated' after the fast food chain announced it would be removing the hot drink from its menu. While McDonald's has introduced two new coffee syrups, vanilla and salted caramel, to fill the void, users online insist they're 'just not the same'. On September 9, the chain also removed its Chocolate Honeycomb Frappé and Candy Floss Frappé from the menu. For just £2.79, McDonald's customers have been enjoying the Toffee Latte for over a decade. Made with 100% Arabica coffee, semi-skimmed milk, sweet toffee syrup, whipped cream, and a toffee drizzle, a number of users on social media described it as their 'favourite coffee'. On Reddit, @stilladeptness5958 shared: 'The Toffee Latte was the reason I'd go to McDonalds'. One content creator on TikTok went as far as to suggest that the public should 'start a petition'. Lifestyle influencer, @life.with.alana36, shared a video on her page expressing her upset at the news. 'Surely I'm not the only one whose blood runs Toffee Latte - McDonald's, someone answer me please!' Forced to try one of the new flavours on offer, she described the Caramel Latte as simply 'not the same'. Some users in the comment section, a number of which claim to be McDonald's employees, made the point that the new flavoured lattes should have the 'exact same number of syrup pumps as the Toffee Latte', adding that the only 'major difference' should be the absence of the whipped cream on top. But, even still, customers don't seem convinced. One individual, incredibly unimpressed by the new syrups, even called the alternative options 'rancid'. This hasn't come at the best time, given the fact that McDonald's is already on thin ice with some patrons right now. In a rather shocking turn of events, the chain recently announced that there will be no McDonald's Monopoly for 2026... I know. The fast food chain's version of the classic board game has been a fixture of the Maccie's calendar since it launched in 2006 (apart from a hiatus in 2020, due to the pandemic). But while the game is usually rolled out around autumn, this year, fans are set to be left disappointed. A McDonald's spokesperson told Metro: 'We're always looking for new ways to surprise and delight our customers, and while Monopoly won't feature in 2026, we'll continue listening closely to what they enjoy most as we shape future promotions.' With some customers online threatening to 'boycott' the brand, I'm sure it'll only be a matter of time before McDonald's pulls something out of the bag to win back their hearts.
McDonald's snaps up another location in Toronto. McDonald's has more than 1,000 locations across Canada. Published Date: September 11, 2026, 4:19 PM EDT It appears another McDonald's location is on the way to Toronto. Building permits indicate that a new restaurant for the chain will open at 709 Queen St. E., as first reported by blogTO. The chain has 26 locations clustered directly in Toronto and seems to be continuing to expand their footprint. The restaurant has been expanding across the country and Canada now has about 1,500 McDonald's restaurants, largely concentrated in Ontario. Most recently, the building where McDonald's is seeking to open was home to Duke's Refresher. Further details regarding the opening timeline remain unclear. The permit calls for renovations, indicating that the restaurant is still in the early stages of development. Love its content? McDonald's launches New York-only CollectiBILLS Meal with Bills bobblehead. The CollectiBILLS Meals, Bills Mafia Box, and Buffalo Chill are available at participating McDonald's restaurants across New York State, though locations in and around New York City are excluded from the promotion. The CollectiBILLS launch comes just days after McDonald's introduced another state-exclusive promotion in Texas. Beginning September 1, participating Texas restaurants started offering a limited-time Texas Meal featuring seven collectible cups, each representing a different region of the state. That meal includes a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, medium fries, and a medium drink, with customers also able to swap in the recently returned Spicy Chicken McNuggets.
McDonald's at Canvey retail park closed until October. Revamp - McDonald's at Northwick Retail Park on Canvey (Image: Google) A major fast-food chain has closed one of its restaurants for refurbishment. The McDonald's at Northwick Retail Park, on Canvey, has been shut since September 6 for a major refurbishment and the indoor restaurant will remain closed until October 20. The closure includes both the restaurant and its drive-thru, until October 1 when the drive-thru and delivery service re-opens. From October 1 to 19, the drive-thru will be open from 11am daily, with delivery services also available from that time. However, the lobby and in-store dining area will remain closed until October 20. A sign on the restaurant window reads: "We can't wait to see you soon!" Customers are being directed to alternative McDonald's locations in Hadleigh, Pitsea Retail Park, and Rayleigh Weir while the Canvey site remains closed. The refurbishment follows plans announced in February, when McDonald's submitted an application to Castle Point Council to expand and upgrade the restaurant. Proposed improvements include an extension, a new section of shopfront, a relocated entrance, and a covered outdoor seating area. Plans also include two additional customer parking spaces, an expanded kitchen, and a new courier room. The refurbishment comes after the boss of McDonald's UK vowed earlier this year to keep investing in restaurants and staff despite tough "headwinds" forcing other firms to cut costs. Lauren Schultz, chief executive of McDonald's UK and Ireland, said in April: "It's hard to do business right now. "Whether down to the consumer, or the number of competitors out there. "In this headwind-rich environment, people who run businesses not the way Echo News do might contract and pull back to manage costs. However, she says "cost savings never lead to growth". "When you invest in your people...you drive better business outcomes," she added. Ms Schultz confirmed earlier this year that McDonald's had maintained its hiring levels despite rising wage costs, employing between 70 and 130 staff per restaurant. The company has continued to invest in its network despite economic pressures that have forced many other businesses to cut costs and reduce their workforce. Improvements to the Canvey site are expected to enhance customer experience and restaurant efficiency with a new courier room and a bigger kitchen to increase speed.
