Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Nursing is required
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred, must obtain within 8 years of hire
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the state of Michigan
  • BLS certification required by completion of core orientation
  • Current driver's license in the state of Michigan and proof of insurance required for Bronson Administrative Home (BAH)
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment to set an appropriate plan of action
  • Must be able to communicate verbally, in writing and electronically
  • Physical ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and to perform tasks requiring sustained alertness and concentration
  • Bronson South Haven and Bronson Lakeview Hospital requirements include BSN within 8 years of hire; for Bronson South Haven Emergency Department SALT triage, ESI Triage, NIH Stroke Scale within 90 days; Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Trauma Nursing Core Course within 6 months; Special Care Unit requires Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months; Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification within 6 months for Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby/Antepartum at BMH & BBC
  • There are unit-specific certification requirements such as Critical care or Advanced Cardiac Life Support and other certifications may be required for some RNs
Responsibilities
  • Manage the care delivery for patients throughout the length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge by utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation and evaluation
  • Coordinate care provided by other professionals
  • Delegate selected acts, tasks or functions within the scope of professional nursing practice and the abilities of patient care assistants and universal service assistants
  • Provide selected aspects of physical care within the scope of professional nursing practice as appropriate given patient acuity and care requirements
  • Document and communicate during each tour of duty the patient's response to care provided, consumption of resources and anticipated needs
  • Demonstrate competencies specific to the population served
  • Perform quality reviews of other nurses' work on deliverables such as design calculations, engineering reports, etc
  • Implement the plan of care, administer prescribed medication and treatment, utilize evidence-based interventions, maintain patient safety and comfort, initiate patient education and coordinate discharge planning
  • Evaluate progress toward attainment of expected outcomes and document patient responses
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and ongoing educational activities to maintain competency
  • Collaborate with patient, family, and other health disciplines to achieve positive outcomes and advocate for patients
  • Integrate ethical provisions into practice and engage in relationship-centered care
  • In scrub nursing responsibilities interpret procedure cards, assess case carts, anticipate needs, ensure equipment availability, and act as a resource for circulators; assigned to after-hour call on rotation; perform scrub duties across multiple services; for some departments additional on-call requirements
