Requirements
  • Previous related experience, including at least 3 years of vertical construction or field observation experience.
  • An Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer credential is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, project managers, the owner, and the contractor's superintendent.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft applications.
  • Knowledge of construction processes, means, and methods.
  • Ability to stand and walk around for several hours while observing and documenting field conditions or critical construction operations at active construction sites.
  • A valid driver's license, good driving history, and reliable transportation are required.
Responsibilities
  • Observe and report on vertical construction municipal water and wastewater projects, including water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and storage tanks.
  • Monitor and report the contractor's adherence to standards, specifications, design drawings, and permits.
  • Review contract documents, submittals, requests for information, and other project documentation; provide comments, coordinate reviews, and record information as necessary.
  • Observe construction activities for compliance with the contract and site procedures, track activities to review payments, and prepare progress reports.
  • Monitor construction compliance with approved current standards and specifications.
  • Observe and photograph construction work in progress.
  • Note and report improprieties and deficiencies.
  • Maintain a field log of daily events.
  • Track and quantify construction items daily.
  • Monitor the project schedule.
  • Coordinate and schedule subconsultants as needed.
  • Communicate proactively and consistently with all involved parties.
  • Formulate written progress reports.
  • Observe and record material and equipment tests and equipment startup.
  • Review and provide recommendations on submittals, contractor pay estimates, proposed change orders, and documentation for funding and regulatory agencies.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer credential.
