Position Summary
The Director of Strategic Communication will be responsible for developing a comprehensive earned media strategy for with Navigator Research, a campaign incubated within The Hub Project that conducts a significant volume of quantitative and qualitative research designed to act as a consistent, flexible, responsive tool to inform policy debates for audiences including progressive advocates, elected leaders, and the press. This person will work closely with a team of dedicated researchers and lead a team of three communications professionals, with responsibilities ranging from pitching earned media to disseminate Navigator’s findings, identifying longer-term earned media targets for longer-form narrative building and thought leadership, overseeing digital content strategy and expansion of Navigator’s footprint and distribution, and expanding the depth of Navigator’s partnerships capacity with allied organizations and elected officials.
Essential Responsibilities and Tasks :
- Lead a collaborative and growing team, including professionals in the communications, digital, and partnerships spaces.
- Collaborate closely with the Navigator researcher team, including translating complex data sets into key findings and insights for a variety of different audiences.
- Work with the Senior Director, Polling & Analytics and the Director of Polling & Analytics on media outreach strategy and lead the team in directly pitching press and building relationships with national and local reporters to promote Navigator’s brand.
- Oversee and approve key publicly-facing Navigator communications products, including but not limited to: press releases, media advisories, op-eds, and digital content.
- Develop and drive forward a comprehensive earned media and thought leadership plans.
- Help develop outside-the-box approaches for how to promote Navigator beyond traditional press strategies and among harder-to-reach audiences.
- Manage higher-level partner relationships, including with the Navigator Advisory Board, and work with a partnerships manager to identify opportunities for expanding our reach, particularly among key audiences for other Hub-run issue advocacy campaigns.

Required Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
- You are committed to a just and inclusive economy that delivers opportunity and dignity to all Americans, and are passionate about strengthening American democracy.
- You have at least 7 years of demonstrated, relevant work experience in communications, campaign, issue advocacy, agency, political, or other relevant settings.
- You have strong people management skills and the ability to work well on a collaborative and interdisciplinary team.
- You have excellent writing and editing skills.
- You have a robust network of media relationships and extensive experience pitching political press, with a strong preference for experience pitching survey research or qualitative data.
- You have a deep understanding of earned media management and political news, and a creative approach to garnering press coverage.
- You are well-organized with the ability to prioritize across multiple projects and deliver results under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Employees are able to enroll in 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions. Employees are also eligible for pre-tax transportation benefits. Employees will receive 120 hours of vacation time, 80 hours of health leave, up to 2 days of casual leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave annually. Employees will also receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are eligible for 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave after 90 days of employment.
