Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a production or operations management role, preferably in a unionized manufacturing or food processing environment.
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Operations Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and achieving operational targets.
  • Strong knowledge of health & safety regulations, GMP, HACCP, and food safety certifications such as FSSC 22000.
  • Proven ability to plan, organize, and execute departmental strategies and capital projects.
  • Skilled in performance management, coaching, and staff development.
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with ERP systems.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee departmental operational plans, budgets, production schedules, and performance reports.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs, work aids, and company policies, while resolving production and resource issues.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and NPD teams to assess product feasibility and rationalization.
  • Ensure timely investigation and resolution of incidents in line with legislative and corporate requirements.
  • Set and monitor departmental goals using KPIs; ensure clear communication of expectations and regular feedback.
  • Manage staffing, scheduling, and performance issues while fostering a culture of inclusion and open communication.
  • Develop a skilled and high-performing team through coaching, training, and structured development plans.
  • Lead or participate in safety and improvement committees, ensuring risk assessments and capital planning processes are effective.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and recognize team achievements to promote a culture of excellence.
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, food safety, GMP, HACCP, and FSSC 22000 requirements.
  • Maintain proper documentation and promote safe, clean, and organized work environments.

Richardson International handles grain globally and turns crops like canola and oats into food ingredients. It started in Kingston, Ontario as a grain trader and expanded west with a network of grain elevators, later creating Pioneer Grain Company in 1913. In 2013 it bought large portions of Viterra’s assets, enabling vertical integration across elevators, mills, and port terminals. Its goal is to provide end-to-end grain handling and processing on a global scale, moving crops from farm to shelf.
