Requirements
  • Knowledge of the flow process of central sterile processing.
  • Knowledge of infection control standards and manufacturer recommendations for cleaning, preparing, processing, sterilizing, and storing medical and surgical supplies, equipment, implants, and instruments.
  • Working knowledge of the instrument tracking system.
  • Working knowledge of the proper functioning and testing of departmental autoclaves and the procedures to follow when they malfunction.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and professionally with team members and comply with departmental and organizational policies.
  • Strong attention to detail throughout decontamination, washing, counting, packing, sterilization, and storage processes.
Responsibilities
  • Follow infection control standards and manufacturer recommendations for cleaning, preparing, processing, sterilizing, and storing medical and surgical supplies, equipment, implants, and instruments.
  • Perform central sterile processing functions involving the care, handling, and sterilization of surgical instruments, implants, equipment, and flexible endoscopes.
  • Disassemble, clean, and disinfect instruments, equipment, and supplies returned to the decontamination room for reprocessing.
  • Operate, maintain, clean, and load washer/decontamination equipment, ultrasonic machines, steam sterilizers, SFPP sterilizers, Sterrad sterilizers, cart washers, and other patient-care equipment.
  • Perform daily rounds and transport soiled equipment, contaminated instruments, and case carts from patient-care departments to Central Sterile for reprocessing.
  • Deliver clean equipment, isolation carts, crash carts, and sterile instruments to patient-care areas as requested.
  • Maintain the counting and packing table to reduce errors.
  • Test departmental autoclaves, notify the department manager when they are not functioning properly, submit work orders, and post out-of-order signs.
