Requirements
  • A doctoral degree in Healthcare Administration or Management, Business Administration or Management with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Healthcare Administration or Management, Health Services Management, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution is required.
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience in a Healthcare Administration program in higher education is required.
  • Ability to be present on campus in Charleston, South Carolina for weekly class sessions is required.
  • Alternatively, a master's degree in a relevant discipline plus a documented professional qualification may be considered in rare cases where the terminal degree is lacking.
  • At least 18 graduate semester hours in healthcare administration or a related discipline are required for the alternative qualification.
  • Significant professional experience, such as at least five years in healthcare administration, healthcare management, healthcare operations, strategic planning, healthcare finance, or related roles, and evidence of continuing professional development are required for the alternative qualification.
  • Applicants must submit a cover letter, current curriculum vitae or resume, and contact information for three professional references.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as an instructor for one or more MHA courses per academic year, typically two to three courses per year for adjunct status.
  • Deliver in-person instruction, including lectures, case discussions, experiential activities, assignment design, assessment, and feedback.
  • Attend scheduled weekly class sessions on campus, maintain virtual office hours, and respond to student inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Monitor student engagement and performance and intervene or refer students to program support as needed.
  • Collaborate with the division director and other faculty to ensure course content is current, evidence-based, and aligned with student learning outcomes.
  • Participate in faculty orientation and training for residential instruction and follow university policies on academic integrity, accessibility, and teaching best practices.
  • Engage in periodic program reviews and mentor students in assigned courses.
  • Serve as a mentor or advisor for applied projects when applicable, supporting students through healthcare management analysis, writing, and professional development processes.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience teaching in graduate programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate engaging in-person classroom discussions and experiential learning activities.
  • Experience teaching early-career students or working professionals.
  • Active participation in professional organizations such as ACHE, MGMA, HFMA, or other relevant healthcare management associations.
  • Professional certifications such as FACHE, CHFP, CPCS, CMPE, or equivalent.
  • Experience in healthcare administration, healthcare operations, strategic planning, healthcare finance, health policy, or healthcare quality improvement in the Charleston or South Carolina region.
  • A record of peer-reviewed publications or presentations in healthcare administration, health services research, or related fields.
  • Ability to contribute to curriculum design, continuous quality improvement, CAHME accreditation compliance, and student mentorship.
  • Connections to Charleston-area healthcare organizations for networking and experiential learning opportunities.
