Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Two years of relevant experience are required.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with applicable regulations.
  • Follow patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection-control best practices.
  • Demonstrate intermediate knowledge of ocular anatomy, function, and motility.
  • Perform appropriate patient workups using an electronic medical record telehealth platform.
  • Demonstrate competency in ophthalmic subspecialty patient workups.
  • Prepare patients for intravitreal injections.
  • Function as an ophthalmic scribe.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office.
Responsibilities
  • Perform and document patient information and clinical testing in the electronic medical record, including reason for visit, chief complaint, history of present illness, reviews of systems, medications, allergies, pharmacy information, family/social/medical/ocular history, visual acuity, lensometry, refraction, visual fields, ocular motility, pupillary evaluation, ocular surface assessment, eye-drop administration, intraocular pressure, pachymetry, contact-lens insertion and removal, color vision, stereopsis, and sensorimotor examinations.
  • Provide documentation in patient charts to support providers and patient care.
  • Provide patient-centered care.
  • Adhere to University of Miami policies, standards, values, and required training.
  • Attend educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, professional, and thorough work and meet daily productivity goals.
  • Maintain JCAHPO certifications.
  • Ensure equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order.
  • Participate in assigned clinical research and maintain required certifications.
  • Organize and stock rooms for daily clinical activities.
  • Travel to satellite eye centers when necessary.
  • Work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Perform organizational duties as assigned.
  • Complete intravitreal injection preparation for patients.
  • Facilitate motility examinations.
  • Support Virtual Care encounters and examinations.
  • Perform imaging, including fundus photography, optical coherence tomography, and slit-lamp examinations.
  • Assist with training and onboarding clinical support staff.
  • Act as a super-user for technology implementations, optimizations, and training initiatives.
  • Act as a preceptor and trainer for team members.
  • Serve as a lead technician providing oversight to clinical teams when assigned.
