Requirements
  • Six months of recent work experience in a medical office setting, including high-volume administrative and direct patient contact, or one year of recent work experience in a high-volume administrative, direct-public-contact position or successful completion of the PAS Trainee position.
  • A history of excellent work attendance is essential.
  • Demonstrated communication, telephone, customer service, prioritizing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to be self-directed and organized, handle multiple complex transactions, and work in a team environment.
  • Basic computer keyboarding skills, including typing 30–45 words per minute.
  • Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation.
Responsibilities
  • Provide customer service to patients, referring providers, clinics, insurance carriers, health care providers, and staff through face-to-face and telephone contact.
  • Obtain prior medical records and imaging studies, answer multi-line telephones, clarify orders, notify clinics of errors, and arrange stretchers, wheelchairs, interpreters, and other special needs.
  • Schedule patient, breast imaging, phlebotomy, and related appointments; assess appointment types and appropriate breast specialists; and prepare paperwork and labels.
  • Verify orders using Epic, track outside-record requests, arrange digitization of outside images, burn image CDs upon request, and maintain and return records and images appropriately.
  • Greet patients, confirm appointments, inspect insurance cards and authorization notices, collect deductibles, co-payments, and deposits, provide receipts, and complete accounting procedures.
  • Verify and update patient data, monitor waiting patients, follow up on service delays, and explain and satisfy patient signature requirements.
  • Gather and verify demographics, insurance coverage, and financial information; confirm eligibility, managed-care arrangements, active accounts, and authorizations.
  • Enter patient and authorization information accurately into OHSU databases or medical records and follow up on pending authorizations.
  • Complete required PAS training, core competency assessments, update modules, and maintain core competencies.
  • Keep reception and waiting areas clean and organized and complete other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • High school diploma.
  • Experience in a radiology medical office setting.
  • Scheduling, insurance authorization, hospital scheduling, and cash-handling experience.
  • Experience in a radiology or laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
