Requirements
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in good standing with the state of Michigan.
  • For Bronson South Haven Hospital: a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required upon hire; employees hired before this date must have an active nursing license and 3-5 years of progressively more responsible hospital experience.
  • Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire.
  • Bronson South Haven Hospital: Basic Cardiac Life Support required upon hire.
  • Bronson South Haven Hospital: Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinates and oversees hospital operations and provides administrative direction.
  • Resolves crises and conflicts; provides analysis, assessment and intervention for problems requiring immediate attention; informs department managers and directors of problems and resolutions.
  • Investigates problems and complaints from patients, visitors, physicians and staff; implements appropriate action and follow up.
  • Acts as initial contact person for atypical events; conducts initial assessment of events; initiates appropriate action ensuring stabilization of patient; ensures notification of risk management, critical incident and department manager and director.
  • Continually assesses hospital environment for safety concerns including patients, families, visitors and staff; takes action as appropriate.
  • Attends all Safety Check-In Meetings Monday – Friday; leads Safety Check-In Meetings on weekends and holidays.
  • Coordinates placement of all admissions and transfers; communicates with Bronson First to coordinate regional transfers; collaborates with physicians and Rapid Response to optimize patient placement.
  • Monitors hospital capacity and manages throughput to avoid delays in patient placement; implements hospital surge plan as needed; provides hospital-wide communication regarding occupancy; collaborates with emergency room physicians and charge nurse when at capacity.
  • Leads 0400/1600 Bed Planning Meetings; works with staffing office to ensure appropriate placement of available staff; assigns or reassigns staff to maintain safe, competent levels of care including placement of sitters.
  • Coordinates communication with outside organizations or their representatives including other health care facilities, law enforcement agencies and media; relays information according to policies; involves public relations in media calls.
  • Manages initial response in the event of a disaster, crisis or emergency; notifies incident commander; coordinates all activities until incident commander arrives; communicates bed availability to outside organizations.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures, including Substance Abuse Policy; ensures appropriate testing when reasonable suspicion exists.
  • Answers all calls for Employee Incident Hotline after hours, on weekends and holidays; provides initial triage and directs employee to emergency department as appropriate; documents calls on Employee Injury & Illness Incident Report; collaborates with emergency department physician to initiate prophylactic treatment for exposed employees.
  • Identifies bed bugs with Environmental Services manager; coordinates notification and sealing of room post-discharge.
  • Conducts regular rounds on all hospital departments and units; monitors unit activity and patient care; mentors staff and advocates for patients.
  • Oversees availability of supplies and equipment; provides direction during shortages and during computer and monitoring downtime.
  • For Bronson Lakeview Hospital and Bronson South Haven Hospital: complete the Workday CBL swing bed annual training; understand documentation differences and care required for swing bed patients.
Desired Qualifications
  • Overall knowledge of disaster planning; certification in incident command system IS-100, IS-200, IS-200.HCa, IS-700.a; NIH Stroke certification preferred or to be completed.
  • Knowledge of disaster planning and ability to operate basic computer programs for record keeping; ability to read, interpret and analyze data from computer systems and equipment related to patient care; strong teamwork and communication with visitors, physicians, hospital personnel, and administrative staff; tact in sensitive matters.
