Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA designation is strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including significant experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller for a minimum of 3 years
  • Prior experience with a Big 4 accounting firm, specifically in the audit practice, is highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP and other accounting principles and regulations
  • Technical expertise in revenue recognition and stock-based compensation a plus
  • Experience in the software technology industry is preferred
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems; Experience with NetSuite is a plus
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the company's accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting
  • Ensure accurate and timely production of financial statements, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
  • Perform month-end accounting close functions including preparing journal entries, analyses and reconciliations
  • Responsible for the preparation of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP as well as providing written analyses of variances against prior periods and budgets
  • Review and interpret accounting guidelines, including ASC 606 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers), to determine appropriate revenue recognition for IXL School subscriptions
  • Perform stock compensation expense calculations and support 409A valuation
  • Develop and maintain an accounting system of records, policies, and procedures that comply with GAAP and other regulatory requirements
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive set of internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data
  • Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial plans to support business objectives and strategic initiatives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights, analysis, and support for decision-making
  • Coordinate and manage the annual external audit process and liaise with external auditors to ensure compliance and timely completion
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance, identify trends, and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting processes for management reporting
  • Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and tax regulations to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development
  • Conduct financial evaluations of investment opportunities, mergers and acquisitions, and new business ventures
  • Oversee and implement ERP accounting software to meet growing corporate needs on business and product integration
