Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, English or related field and Paralegal Studies Certificate from an ABA-approved program.
  • 5+ years paralegal experience (preferred in-house, will consider prior law firm experience) preferably advising software or technology companies serving public and private sector clients.
  • Strong experience interpreting laws, rules, and regulations at local, state, and federal levels.
  • Solid understanding of the U.S. Government procurement regulations, with an ability to learn procurement and other relevant legal topics in states where Nava does business or operates.
  • 3+ years of procurement experience with knowledge of FAR, DFARS, and other agency supplements.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • High level of personal integrity, ethics, motivation, and ability to foster mutual respect and inclusion.
  • Able to partner with People Operations to manage business objectives and risks at the intersection of legal and people policies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate 'legalese' to common terms and plain language.
  • Ability to conduct legal research and sheparadize.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with internal stakeholders, as well as external customers and business partners with whom Nava negotiates.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools, compliance software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in legal software and technology tools used for research, document management, and case management.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on a wide range of legal issues, including but not limited to: contract law, corporate law, employment law, intellectual property law, litigation support and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare and review legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, contracts, agreements, and other legal correspondence under the supervision of the Legal Compliance Manager and General Counsel.
  • Remain current on legal developments and specific regulations that may impact the company to ensure ongoing compliance while reducing legal risk.
  • Maintain accurate and organized legal research files.
  • Assist in periodic audits and assessments to identify compliance risks and deficiencies.
  • Ensure the company has robust and supportive policies, procedures, and related documentation, including the development of new policies in accordance with organizational goals, industry trends, and labor laws and regulations.
  • Assist in the identification, assessment, and mitigation of compliance risks across the organization.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports and filings as required by applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records/documentation related to compliance activities, audits, and investigations.
  • Assist with legal projects, including document review, discovery, and case preparation.
  • Review and analyze discovery responses, including gathering, organizing, and evaluating relevant information.
  • Organize and maintain accurate and up-to-date case files, including both electronic and physical documents, to ensure efficient access and retrieval of information.
  • Monitor ongoing matter activity, track deadlines, and proactively identify and address potential roadblocks to ensure timely and efficient matter progression.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, maintaining calendars, and managing correspondence.
  • Organize and maintain electronic legal files, including pleadings, correspondence, and other legal documents.
  • Draft and prepare correspondence, such as letters, emails, and memos.
  • Ensure proper indexing, labeling, and storage of all files.
  • Retrieve and file electronic communications efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate and current information within all tracking charts.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least two years of litigation paralegal experience desired.
  • Experience in a fast-growing professional services firm and a track record of adapting risk management to the context and business of the firm.
  • Proficiency in GSuite, Slack, Zoom, Excel, Apple computers, and other tools used to support a remote-work environment.

Developing Tech For Government Agencies? Participant Advisory Councils Can Help Get It Right.

The DC-based company creates platforms and technical systems to help government agencies better serve constituents.Less than 25% of Americans trust the federal government to “do what’s right.” Although trust in government has marginally increased since 2023, this statistic is concerning.Various factors eroded the public’s trust in government, and the hoops one must jump through to access government services — often called “administrative burdens” — are surely among them.To reduce these barriers and restore trust in government, public interest technologists must design products and services to meet the public’s needs. One way to accomplish this is through co-design — an approach that deeply involves community members and treats them as experts of their lived experiences.Participant advisory councils (PACs), where groups of program participants regularly meet with development teams to provide feedback on product improvements, offer an emerging way to practice co-design. Stemming from a long history of community engagement practices across fields, PACs emerged in government as an effective way to gather feedback on new products or services. However, they’re still an uncommon design method for technology projects.Success stories from other sectors suggest that PACs can be an efficient and human-centered way for technologists to build products that meet peoples’ needs, which can ultimately help restore trust in our institutions.
