Pima County's Regional Wastewater Reclamation (RWRD) is proud to be an award-winning, industry leader in the management and sustainability of the water reclamation cycle and other renewable resources. As a Wastewater Technical Trainer, you will be responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating the training to Wastewater Utility Maintenance Workers and other RWRD Conveyance personnel. The selected candidate will deliver direct instruction on wastewater theory and facility operations and maintenance, both in a classroom and a field setting, as part of a career development and state regulatory-required certifications. The position is also responsible for creating and developing multi-modal training content, instructional materials, and presentations for both in-person, verbal, and written communication skills, combined with a strong aptitude for public speaking. Essential Functions:

• Identifies and prioritizes training needs, programs, or strategies based on regulatory and departmental requirements;

• Collaborates with internal teams and subject matter experts to ensure alignment with department goals and objectives;

• Designs, develops, delivers, and updates technical training curricula, materials, and evaluations, using fundamental principles of the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment and conveyance systems, processes, equipment, and machinery;

• Provides technical and practical training for the purposes of obtaining licensing certifications, credentials, or endorsements that are required of Department employees;

• Uses various digital tools and platforms to research and develop training materials for a variety of settings, and uses relevant computer software programs and applications for training documentation, file and database management, and report preparation;

• Possesses sound knowledge and understanding of the subject matter taught; participates in professional development to enhance skills, knowledge, and to stay updated on new technologies and best practices;

• Evaluates external materials and texts for use, may coordinate the provision of training by other external sources;

• Uses principles and practices of employee supervision, training, and evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Three years of experience as teacher/instructor in one or more STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) disciplines or as an instructor/trainer in related industrial job training.

(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

OR:

Two years of experience in the operation or maintenance of an advanced, complex wastewater/water facility or related industry/facility as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment, INCLUDING one year of experience performing lead, supervisory, and/or training duties (supervisory/training experience may be concurrent).

(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

OR:

One year of experience with Pima County in an Operations & Maintenance Technician II, Utility Maintenance Worker III, Industrial Wastewater Inspector, Wastewater Maintenance Specialist II, Conveyance Systems Monitoring II or closely related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams) or other educational/training development software.

• Minimum (1) one year experience developing curriculum and associated training materials.

• Minimum (1) one year experience presenting training materials.

• Minimum (1) one year experience working in an industrial or construction environment.

• Minimum (1) one year experience working with industrial or construction-related safety rules, procedures, and/or regulations (ex: Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver's license is required at the time of application. Valid AZ driver's license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine the applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. This position requires a valid Arizona Class D driver’s license at the time of application or prior to completion of initial/promotional probation. A valid Arizona commercial driver's license (CDL), Class A, Class B, or Class C with appropriate endorsements is required. For these positions, failure to maintain the required CDL may be grounds for termination. Positions requiring a CDL are also subject to applicable State of Arizona and federal standards, rules, and regulations on physical requirements including drug and alcohol testing. Failure to obtain/maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination. Treatment-specific and conveyance-specific positions require maintaining a valid Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade 3 Wastewater Treatment System Operator certification or ADEQ Grade 3 Wastewater Collection System Operator certification at time of application. The Treatment-specific position requires a valid Arizona Class D driver license at time of application and the conveyance-specific position requires a commercial driver's license (CDL) with a tanker endorsement at time of application. Failure to maintain the required licensures shall be grounds for termination.

Physical/Sensory Requirements: All positions require sufficient body flexibility, mobility, stamina, and balance to allow for standing, walking, sitting, grasping and manipulation of work objects, frequent bending, stooping, reaching, climbing stairs/ladders; regular or occasional crawling, kneeling, squatting, lifting/ carrying objects up to 50 pounds, pushing and pulling objects up to 75 pounds, donning/doffing fall protection to work in confined spaces; interpreting written manuals, gauges, etc., including distinguishing various colors; comprehending voice communications in-person, over a radio/phone, and hearing operating equipment; operation of machinery and powered industrial equipment. Action Activity - bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, squatting, stooping; Motion Activity - grasping; Hearing Activity - in noisy areas, behind themselves, equipment alarms; Speaking Activity - in person and on the phone; Vision - must be able to operate a motor vehicle, operate machinery, operate a forklift/power industrial equipment, distinguish colors, have depth perception, have peripheral vision. Frequently required to lift 50 pounds, push or pull objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

Working Conditions: All positions require outdoor work, including during inclement and hot weather, and exposure to waterborne pathogens/agents, hazardous materials and gases, water hazards and wet/slippery surfaces, odors, fumes, humidity, dirt, dust, traffic hazards, venomous pests, uneven surfaces, and electric arc flash potential.
