Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree and/or two years of experience working in a youth-serving program, including at least one year in a supervisory or managerial position.
  • A minimum of 30 hours of training every two years.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • Criminal history clearance.
  • New York State Department of Health fingerprinting.
  • State Central Registry clearance documentation.
  • An updated physical examination and tuberculosis/PPD skin test completed every two years.
  • Proficient computer knowledge and skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and programmatic skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Flexibility and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • The ability to provide a positive role model for participants and staff.

  • Availability for regular weekend and evening hours.
Responsibilities
  • Support the Program Director in operating the DYCD-funded Cornerstone program serving youth and adults in NYCHA housing and surrounding communities.
  • Provide overall professional planning, supervision of the after-school program, participation monitoring, service-delivery oversight, compliance monitoring, and record keeping.
  • Maintain program registration and administrative paperwork, building bulletin boards, and required records.
  • Participate in departmental and agency training, staff meetings, supervisory conferences, committees, special events, and required JCC functions.
  • Provide building coverage as assigned.
  • Purchase supplies, equipment, and food for the after-school program.
  • Coordinate room scheduling, maintenance setups, and transportation for the after-school program.
  • Assist with hiring, training, supervising, and coordinating teachers, group leaders, and consultants.
  • Develop marketing and public-relations materials in coordination with the Marketing Director and Supervisor, including content for program guides, newsletters, websites, and social media.
  • Maintain working knowledge of DYCD and Department of Health regulations and codes.
  • Ensure facility appearance and safety and handle site inspections and program audits when the Director is unavailable.
  • Assist the Director with monthly service-unit reporting to DYCD and related funders.
  • Enter required data into the DYCD Connect database.
  • Represent the department at DYCD meetings.
  • Maintain administrative records, including personnel training documents, files, facility permits, and staff certifications.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with participants, parents, colleagues, school staff, partner organizations, and the surrounding community.
  • Attend community events on behalf of the JCC and coordinate parent orientations and community events.
  • Promote the program and maintain affiliations with local coalitions and committees serving at-risk or underserved youth.
  • Engage school liaisons and parents in program development and recruitment.
  • Assist the Director in recruiting, developing, and cultivating Advisory Board and Youth Council members.
  • Co-facilitate monthly Advisory Board and Youth Council meetings and work with the chairperson to implement feedback.
  • Address disciplinary problems and complete incident reports as needed.
  • Collaborate with other departments and staff and maintain open communication.
  • Report to the Director of Community Based Youth Programs and the DYCD Program Manager.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate youth programs and services in the Beacon after-school program.
  • Maintain existing programs and develop new services to meet emerging needs.
  • Develop the annual calendar of events for the grant work scope, including daily, weekly, and monthly scheduling.
  • Revise schedules for special events and other circumstances.
  • Assist the Director with scheduling enrichment trips and activities.
  • Schedule ongoing community-service projects for children in the after-school program.
  • Assist the Director in maintaining policies and procedures for after-school and evening/weekend programs.
  • Staff vacation-day programming, summer camp, and Saturday programming as needed.
