Requirements
  • Four to five years of experience in general repair, carpentry, facilities maintenance, assembly, plumbing, electrical work, painting, or related work.
  • A physical examination and background checks are required.
  • A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, a clean driving record, current automobile liability insurance, and bondability by AVANCE, Inc. are required.
  • Ability to travel locally or long-distance, including to various sites, for up to 50% of work-related meetings, functions, and site visits.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle during the course of duties.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing, reaching, handling objects, and occasional lifting or carrying up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain emotional control under stress and work with interruptions and deadlines.
Responsibilities
  • Identify areas needing maintenance or repair and respond promptly and effectively.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks and use available resources effectively.
  • Clean assigned facilities, including exposed spaces, bathrooms, and floors.
  • Complete regular maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs at centers and the main office upon request.
  • Maintain outdoor environments, including lawns, landscaped beds, playgrounds, outdoor structures, and parking lots.
  • Inspect outdoor areas for safety hazards, trash, weeds, and other debris.
  • Inspect site interiors for safety hazards.
  • Maintain and securely store agency machinery and equipment.
  • Assist with remodeling, refurbishing, and repairing office spaces, classrooms, and storage units, including minor carpentry, painting, sanding, and refinishing of furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Move office furniture, fixtures, and equipment within and between sites to support staffing changes, relocations, remodels, and program expansion.
  • Transport and distribute food and other materials to Early Head Start sites as needed.
  • Complete work requisitions in a timely manner as directed by the Director of Operations.
  • Participate in assigned meetings, professional development, and required training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

AVANCE is a national non-profit that helps families with young children improve economic mobility through a two-generation approach. It offers parenting and child-focused programs, including the Parent Child Education Program (PCEP) and more than 15 complementary programs delivered at community-based centers. The programs strengthen parenting skills and parent–child interactions to support children's development, funded by donations, grants, and partnerships. Its goal is to reduce poverty by expanding access to education and resources, with graduates showing higher performance on standardized tests.
