Requirements
  • Juris Doctor or Bachelor of Laws degree.
  • Membership in good standing with a Law Society in at least one Canadian province.
  • Four to seven years of experience as a practicing lawyer.
  • Experience working as in-house counsel.
  • Strong experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to provide sound legal guidance in a complex business environment.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
  • Reliability Status Clearance (Enhanced Level B), including fingerprinting, a criminal record check, and a credit check.
  • At least five years of residence in Canada and Permanent Resident or Citizenship Status.
Responsibilities
  • Review, draft, negotiate, and manage a wide range of commercial agreements with clients, vendors, service providers, and business partners.
  • Provide legal advice and support on commercial law, contracts, privacy, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and risk management matters.
  • Partner with leaders and stakeholders across the organization to support strategic business initiatives and operational priorities.
  • Support real estate transactions, leasing arrangements, and other property-related matters.
  • Identify legal risks and provide recommendations aligned with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with external counsel when specialized expertise is required.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments and help ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Contribute to legal projects, policy development, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Legal Services team.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supporting real estate transactions, leasing, or property-related matters.
  • Experience in healthcare, insurance, employee benefits, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Knowledge of privacy, regulatory, and compliance frameworks.
  • Bilingualism in English and French.
