- High school graduation or equivalent is required.
- Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school, or verifiable applicable work experience in a patient-care setting, is required.
- Maintain current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification.
- If hired after January 1, 2015, maintain current certification or registration as a Medical Assistant from an accepted certifying agency within six months of hire.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of assigned patients.
- Maintain compliance with organizational and department policies and procedures, patient-safety practices, infection-control standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Perform patient care under the direction and supervision of a physician or Advanced Practice Provider in an ambulatory care setting.
- Remain accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
- Communicate professionally with patients and family members and collaborate with administrative and operations staff.
- Gather patient data through interviews and observation.
- Assist patients and families with preparation for examinations.
- Assist the physician or Advanced Practice Provider during examinations and procedures.
- Demonstrate competency in practice-defined tasks and skills.
- Document treatments, procedures, and patient education according to organizational and department-specific policies.
- Act as a patient liaison by scheduling specialty testing or specialty physician consultations and providing scheduling information.
- Process incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using sound clinical judgment.
- Enter medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under provider direction.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality indicator activities as assigned.
- Demonstrate awareness of medical-legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Use supplies efficiently.
- Assist the business office with reception, scheduling, and patient discharge as needed.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Bilingual ability is highly preferred.
