Requirements
- Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
- Meet all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Baptist Health and the assigned unit or department.
- Have 1 year of experience, unless approved by an Assistant Vice President level or above.
- Maintain a current State of Alabama Registered Nurse license or a valid enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact multistate Registered Nurse license.
- Maintain current Basic Life Support/Healthcare Provider certification.
- Maintain Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Trauma Nursing Core Course certifications when required for the applicable area; Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification is required for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Responsibilities
- Use ambulatory care nursing knowledge, skills, and competencies to promote wellness, restore health, address health-related situational problems, and support end-of-life care.
- Assess patients’ needs and apply current ambulatory care nursing knowledge and evidence-based nursing practice when developing individualized plans of care.
- Provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit.
- Apply growth and development principles across the life span, assess patient status data, and identify age-specific care requirements.
- Prescribe, delegate, coordinate, and document patient care, including patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and patient safety.
- Demonstrate competency in nursing skills and use of patient care and unit equipment according to unit-specific requirements.
- Prioritize patient care in accordance with evidence-based practice standards of care.
- Identify and resolve problems effectively.
- Delegate tasks and duties to healthcare team members according to patient needs and team members’ capabilities and qualifications.
- Communicate appropriate information about patient conditions or unit concerns to other healthcare team members.
- Maintain a safe and caring environment for patients and families.
- Integrate patient and family education throughout care delivery.
- Participate in assigned process-improvement activities.
- Maintain awareness of legal issues, patients’ rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting standards.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance consistent with Baptist Health policies and applicable federal, state, and local standards.
- Comply with Baptist Health policies and procedures.
- Contribute nursing knowledge and skills to others and to continuous improvement of healthcare quality and organizational outcomes.
- Participate in and potentially lead unit-level or organizational nursing-practice and performance-improvement committees.
- Participate in department and organizational peer review, mentoring, and coaching regarding professional practice or role performance.
- Use supplies efficiently and maintain a clean, safe, and organized unit.
- Provide input into staff-development needs, hospital and nursing committees, nursing research activities, and performance-management activities for coworkers and self.
- Assume responsibility for professional development and continuing education.
- Perform other assigned duties.
