Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • A Medical Administrative Assistant certificate is preferred.
  • One to three years of related work experience is required.
  • Experience with computer systems, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access, is required.
  • Ability to read and write in English to understand basic safety instructions, take direction, communicate with patients, families, and medical center staff, and respond to basic questions.
  • Ability to understand spoken English to follow basic safety instructions, take direction, and communicate with patients, families, and medical center staff in response to routine questions.
  • Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures and use them in routine situations.

  • Ability to provide customer service to patients, visitors, staff, and external customers using active listening and problem-solving skills and remain calm in stressful situations.

Responsibilities
  • Greet patients and visitors courteously while maintaining service, respect, and privacy.
  • Serve as a central communication source in patient care delivery by providing accurate information, directions, or guidance and following up promptly.
  • Perform check-in, registration, scheduling, demographic and fiscal-data verification, and referral entry using a computer system.
  • Collect co-payments according to co-payment processing standards.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments while accommodating patient and provider needs.
  • Monitor and support patients and visitors entering and leaving the practice.
  • Facilitate timely patient flow and proactively resolve flow issues involving early or late patients and providers.
  • Act as a liaison between patients and practice staff or other areas to support optimal flow and service delivery.
  • Perform check-out and schedule necessary follow-up appointments as assigned.
  • Provide relevant educational materials, perform visit-ticket entry, and prepare medical records as assigned.
  • Facilitate billing functions and research and follow through on information requests.
  • Act as a group leader in the manager's absence.
  • Serve as a department resource by providing information and training to others.
  • Facilitate problem solving and provide appropriate direction.
  • Participate in small projects under the direction of the manager or designee.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
