Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A Class A commercial driver's license is required.
  • Fluency in English is required, including the ability to read, write, speak, hear, and understand English.
  • Availability to work varied schedules based on workload is required.
  • Experience in railroad track construction and/or maintenance using various machines in an operating railroad environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe and proper procedures for operating the equipment is required.
  • Knowledge of safe and efficient manipulation of equipment and tools for construction and maintenance tasks is required.
  • Ability to complete work under time pressure and maintain composure during emergency situations is required.
  • The employee must pass a pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • The employee must maintain a valid driver's license and required endorsements.
  • The employee must pass a pre-employment Department of Transportation physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen.
  • The employee must pass and maintain a Department of Transportation medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle.
  • The employee must successfully complete and maintain required safety certification and testing annually.
  • The employee must regularly lift, carry, push, pull, grasp, climb, kneel, bend, squat, sit, stand, and walk as specified by the physical requirements.
  • The employee must be able to work outdoors in hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet.
  • The employee must be available for a 40-hour work week subject to overtime, on-call assignments, and alternate shifts including weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
  • The employee must pass color and vision examinations required by the position.
  • The employee must hear and distinguish auditory signals required by the position.
Responsibilities
  • Work as a member of a crew or independently.
  • Work under the direction of a Railroad Track Repair Leader or Railroad Track Welder and direct the work of Railroad Track Repairer Helpers when assigned.
  • Drive and perform operator-level maintenance on rail-mounted heavy-duty trucks equipped with hydraulic cranes, including dump trucks.
  • Install and repair railroad track and embankments, including special track work, road crossings, signage, and rail lubricators.
  • Use hand and power tools and track machines to remove and replace ties, rails, fasteners, special track work components, crushed rock ballast, crossing surfaces, paving, subgrade material, vegetation, signs, and structures.
  • Regularly participate in and promote Herzog's culture and essential behaviors.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
  • Report safety violations to the immediate supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
