Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, aerospace, or other engineering discipline)
  • 7-12 years of experience as a Ground Support Equipment Safety Engineer (or similar titled position) working in the human spaceflight field
  • Experience performing hazard analyses, developing hazard reports, completing fault trees, and other types of safety analysis/assessments
  • Experience in design, assembly, and operation of electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic ground support equipment and test hardware
  • Experience working with test rig and facility interface electrical power systems ensuring NEC, NFPA, OSHA, etc. regulatory compliance requirements are met
  • Experience working directly with GSE design engineers, technicians, and other support group personnel while performing required component or system level safety and hazard analysis
  • Experience with developing and or performing safety review of developmental and flight test operations test procedures
Responsibilities
  • Provide safety requirements and solutions to influence GSE hardware design from preliminary design review through test readiness review
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians when performing critical design and operations of flight and non-flight GSE hardware including pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical mechanical systems
  • Develop GSE and other development test hardware Hazard Analysis (HA) reports
  • Document and track results of HAs, Preliminary Hazards Analysis, Functional Hazard Analysis, Fault Tree, Safety Assessments, etc.
  • Work with GSE design engineers in support of GSE and test hardware testing, integration, and safe operation
  • Provide support in development and review of Ground Safety Data Packages
  • Participate in and support GSE design working groups, Safety Review Panels, Technical Interchange and Change Review Board meetings
  • Work with verification, and validation (V&V) personnel to ensure safety-critical requirements are tested at an acceptable level of rigor
  • Perform anomaly and nonconformance analysis, tracking, and resolution verification
  • Develop and provide reports/presentations to Axiom Space S&MA Division, Program, and Business leadership
  • Monitor and participate in ground system build and testing alongside skilled technical teams
  • Function as a Test Safety Officer for GSE and other test rig testing operations
  • Provide safety engineer support to all Axiom Programs as required
  • Provide team support for root cause analysis assessment process
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience designing and/or assessing ground support equipment safety design per relevant ASME, IEC, OSHA, NASA, etc. requirements, and other best practices
  • Ability to read electrical and pressure system design schematics, drawing and specifications
  • Familiarity with NASA Safety & Mission Assurance (S&MA) processes, practices, and requirements
  • Knowledge of best practices for hardware design safety, and verification & validation processes
  • Excellent interpersonal skill
  • Excellent communication skill, verbal and written
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Advance skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Result oriented personality with a creative approach to problem solving
