Requirements
  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development credential is required.
  • For the uncertified OR Scrub Tech role, Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire.
  • For the certified OR Scrub Tech role, Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire.
  • For the certified OR Scrub Tech role, Certified Surgical Technologist, Tech in Surgery Certified, or National Center for Competency Testing certification is required.
  • The employee must obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for assigned roles.
  • One year of operating room technician experience or completion of a technician training program is required.
Responsibilities
  • Prioritize and address technical needs to meet patient conditions.
  • Assist the health care team during surgical procedures by applying an understanding of anatomy and physiology to the surgical procedure.
  • Provide safe patient care during the intra-operative phase, including specimen handling and medication labeling and handling.
  • Prepare appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment for specific procedures and anticipate the sequence of events and the needs of the surgeon and patient.
  • Maintain, monitor, and restock equipment and supplies as assigned or necessary.
  • Open surgical equipment appropriately for each case and anticipate the physician’s needs during each procedure.
  • Accurately process and communicate provider preferences to the registered nurse.
  • Facilitate efficient room turnovers as a scrub technician by providing appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment and assisting the team as needed.
  • Assist with updating physician preference cards as appropriate.
  • Participate in training and educating new employees and other staff regarding aseptic techniques and processes.
  • Adhere to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety, as well as hospital and departmental policies and procedures, while practicing safely and cost-effectively.
  • Remain current with and comply with applicable state and federal regulations, statutes, and company policies.
  • Ensure required certifications and licenses are current and valid before expiration.
  • Complete mandatory company modules and job-specific training within the specified timeframe.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, electronic medical record entries, and patient responses.
  • Report safety-related incidents promptly through the Midas/RDE tool, attend safety training, perform work safely, monitor the work environment for safety issues, and ensure others work safely.
Desired Qualifications
  • Completion of an operating room technician education program is preferred.
