Fizz is the dominant social platform for Gen-Z to connect with their immediate communities.
Students can post questions, memes, polls, and chat with other verified students while maintaining control over their identity and privacy. Fizz communities prioritize safety, authenticity, and inclusion through community-based moderation. Our mission is to redefine the “social network” in a time when legacy platforms lack authenticity and are filled with curated highlight reels.
What we’ve done
Founded by two Stanford dropouts, Fizz was first launched at Stanford in July 2021 and has seen >95%+ of undergraduates join the app, more than half of which use Fizz every day. We raised a $25M Series B in July 2023 and have established ourselves as the dominant community platform at 250+ colleges across the nation.
Where we’re going
We are in the process of rapidly expanding to all US universities by the end of the 2024-2025 academic school year. We are also experimenting with new monetization opportunities, having recently executed brand partnerships with Fortune 500 companies. Finally, Fizz is also focused on continually improving our content moderation policies to protect our users and define our brand as the safest, most authentic social platform.
About the role
Fizz’s first Strategy & Partnerships leader will focus on growing these monetization opportunities while also owning key parts of our brand, content moderation, and overall product strategy. The ideal candidate will be a strong problem solver with a passion for product and an intuitive empathy for users. This is a generalist role with the opportunity to grow into a core leader of Fizz. This is a 100% onsite role based out of our Palo Alto, CA office.
What you’ll be doing...
- Product (25%) - You will partner with our lead PM, our CTO, and our CEO to define, build, and optimize new and existing features to serve our needs. Over the next 12 months, this will grow to become the most important part of the role and the greatest share of your time.
- Special Projects (25%) - Lead new strategic initiatives and functions within Fizz, including new market expansion, partnerships, and investor relations (e.g., board decks, comms) to support and grow capabilities within the organization
- Monetization (25%) - You will work closely with our CEO to source, evaluate, onboard, and execute key brand deals and partnerships. You will drive our customer strategy, document and codify our GTM motion and processes, and identify opportunities for automation and simplification. You will need excellent client management skills and a top-tier attention to detail and execution.
- Trust & Safety (25%) - You will own the strategy and policy surrounding content moderation, including the management of our custom, AI-native content moderation pipeline and the communication and coordination of 4K+ moderators across our communities. You will be a data expert comfortable assessing core metrics, iterating on product, and ultimately building safer, authentic communities for students online.
Our ideal candidate will have...
- 3 to 5 years total experience, with 2 years of experience in either management consulting, investment banking, or product management and 1+ years of experience in a venture-backed startup.
- A natural curiosity and passion for technology, including an interest in learning how engineering systems work and how our tech stack impacts our users.
- An obsessive attention to detail and a strong bias-to-action.
- Comfort with ambiguity and ability to autonomously define a strategy from first principles.
- A high degree of ownership and self-motivation; this is a leadership role and will require someone to define the work to be done and execute on it with limited direct management.
- A direct communication style and a dedication to “strong opinions, weakly held”; Fizz culture is built on humility and a promise that “the best idea wins.” We hold each other accountable, speak directly, and debate ideas passionately.
- Willing and able to work out of our Palo Alto office 5 days a week.
Bonus points if you have...
- Founder experience
- Experience in GTM or sales
We may not be a good fit if you’re looking for...
- A predictable 9 - 5 – we’re a startup on the cusp of rocketship growth, and that requires our full attention and flexibility
- Hands-on management or a defined career path – this is an opportunity for high-performing, early-career individuals to step into a leadership role at a groundbreaking consumer startup. There will be ample learning opportunities, but our culture requires every team member to have an owner-mindset.
- A corporate / “big tech” culture - we pride ourselves on being scrappy, resourceful, passionate, and direct. We are supportive and understanding, but also fiercely driven and aim to bring the best out of every team member. We abhor complacency and strive for excellence.
