The Wall Street Journal is seeking a video journalist for its Features & Explainers video team based in New York.
Video journalists are responsible for identifying and producing compelling features and topical news stories on deadline.
Top candidates for this position will have a professional background in video journalism, with proven experience executing stories from concept to completion. That includes pitching, booking, researching, interviewing, shooting, scripting and editing videos. This is an ambitious team that seeks a creative storyteller who can multitask and excel on deadline. The position requires solid news judgment, excellent writing and organizational skills, as well as the ability and willingness to adapt and collaborate.
The role will report to the Executive Producer of the Features & Explainers team.

Primary responsibilities:
Pitch and develop original story ideas on a consistent basis
Identify engaging, diverse interviews subjects and conduct interviews that hit key editorial notes
Shoot in-studio and in the field, and edit videos
Craft strong scripts with solid structures, engaging visual scenes and thorough fact checks; apply feedback accordingly in re-writes
Experiment with different, innovative storytelling techniques and formats
Collaborate with WSJ reporters across a variety of coverage areas to identify and produce impactful videos that are visually distinctive and of interest to the WSJ audience
Manage multiple projects at various stages of production and maintain a pipeline of work that includes both short form news stories and longform features
Ensure all journalistic and legal standards are followed at all times
Ability to work long hours and weekends both as part of a on-call weekend rotation and as news developments may warrant
Complete additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
3+ years experience producing videos in a daily news environment, preferably at a top-tier news organization
A proven ability managing every aspect of video production from start to finish, delivering quality results efficiently, within budget and often under tight deadlines
Ability to convey news and data in creative ways using high-quality video and graphics
Effective, clear communicator with exceptional written skills and careful attention to detail
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Team player with strong interpersonal skills, who works well with freelancers, colleagues and senior leadership
A deep understanding of, and interest in, The Wall Street Journal’s core topic areas
Demonstrated experience with multiple camera setups, including but not limited to the Sony FX and FS lines and/or the Canon C500 or C300
Adept with studio lighting setups as well as field shoots
Professional-level understanding of Adobe Suite, with a high level of expertise in Premiere and basic knowledge of After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator
