CALSTART/ Drive to Zero joins ALICE to accelerate the shift to zero-emission freight. Thursday, March 19th, 2026 CALSTART Drive to Zero accelerates the global shift to zero-emission commercial vehicles through strategic partnerships, policy leadership, capacity building and cutting-edge tools. Targeting trucks and buses, Drive to Zero connects governments, industry, and financiers to fast-track the adoption of clean technologies and infrastructure. Anchored in the Global Memorandum of Understanding on Zero-Emission Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles (Global MOU), co-led by Colombia, Drive to Zero is advancing one of the world's most ambitious transport decarbonization efforts. The Global MOU commits signatory nations to achieve 30% new ZE-MHDV sales by 2030 and 100% by 2040. Signed by 40 nations and more than 270 endorsers, including fleets, infrastructure providers, NGOs, investors, and leading enterprises. This community is accelerating the shift to zero-emission transport to foster sustainable economic growth and create future-proof jobs. It also helps to meet 2050 net-zero targets, cut air pollution, and prevent the severe health impacts of diesel emissions-currently linked to over 330,000 premature deaths annually. Drive to Zero works to scale the ZE-MHDV transition by aligning government and industry commitments with the Global MOU and translating those commitments into concrete policy, investment, and infrastructure actions. Through collaboration with policymakers, investors, and the broader industry ecosystem, Drive to Zero helps ensure that ambition is matched by implementation. In January 2025, CALSTART Drive to Zero established and an independent non-profit foundation working to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (ZE-MHDVs) across Europe. It The European foundation builds on longstanding collaboration with European governments, businesses, and knowledge partners to strengthen networks, unlock new opportunities for emission reductions, and scale up climate action. 2026 Transit Retreat: recap. March 17, 2026 NABSA connects with Rural Transit agencies at Knowledge Sharing Retreat. Earlier this month, NABSA Membership & Engagement Director, Laura Mallonee, attended the 5th Annual Transit Knowledge Sharing Retreat. The Transit Retreat is a 2-day educational event that supports rural, small urban, and demand-response transit and mobility providers across the United States. NABSA is a regular attendee of the Transit Retreat and each year looks forward to gaining insight from rural and small urban communities and sharing how shared micromobility can be scaled and customized to meet the needs of communities of any size. Crawford Area Transportation Authority (CATA) Executive Director and retreat facilitator Tim Geibel says, "The Transit Retreat is a unique, national event that focuses on Rural, Small Urban and Demand Response Mobility providers with targeted content and professional networking and development. Each year, over 40 unique transit and mobility providers from 15+ states join the Transit Retreat." Kicking off the event, NABSA joined the Association of Mobility Managers, Introducing Youth to American Infrastructure (iyai+), CALSTART, National Rural Transit Assistance Program (RTAP), Transit Workforce Center (TWC), and Shared-Use Mobility Center (SUMC) for a session called Get to Know your FTA Technical Assistance Centers and National Partners. This session provided an opportunity to share about NABSA and its role in moving shared micromobility forward in North America. Additionally, Laura Mallonee joined up with Alvaro Villagran and Hani Shamat from SUMC to facilitate a workshop entitled Mobility Innovation in Rural and Small Urban Communities. This interactive workshop generated discussions about what people have learned, challenges they face, and hopes they have in exploring innovative rural and small urban mobility projects. Themes that arose during the discussions were the importance of partnerships and collaboration, opportunities for education and engagement, funding challenges and nuances, and the critical role of networking and knowledge sharing. The Chief Engineer Ed Austin, P.E., with the Alabama Department of Transportation provided the keynote address. Session content ranged from transit innovation to safety, regional connections to the next generation of workers, fare collection to partnerships, and so much more! The event also provided attendees the opportunity to connect with downtown Mobile through shopping, tours, and eats. Inspired by the NABSA Annual Conference, the Transit Retreat hosts their own version of the lightning round slideshow, providing attendees an opportunity to connect with each other and event sponsors with 1 minute introductions paired with a slide. NABSA was genuinely thrilled to join this event, share ideas, and build real connections!

Globaldrivetozero value your privacy. BELÉM, Brazil - At COP30 today the government of Mexico joined an ambitious global agreement to accelerate zero-emission trucks, buses, and infrastructure. The country will join 40 other national governments that have signed the (Global MoU), which sets a goal of 100% new zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicle (ZE-MHDV) sales by 2040 at the latest, with an interim goal of at least 30% new sales by 2030. "Today, Globaldrivetozero celebrate a significant milestone in its commitment to sustainability and decarbonization of the transportation sector, by signing the Global Memorandum of Understanding with CALSTART. This collaboration not only reaffirms its political will, but also opens the doors to new opportunities for investment, production and innovation in zero-emission vehicles. Globaldrivetozero is determined to move towards a more sustainable future, promoting economic development that respects and preserves its natural resources. This is just the beginning of a path towards sustainable development and a circular economy that benefits all Mexicans," said Dr. José Luis Samaniego Leyva. Undersecretary of Sustainable Development and Circular Economy at SEMARNAT. "Mexico is demonstrating powerful zero-emission transportation leadership through its strong policy commitment to zero-emission trucks, buses, and infrastructure. CALSTART launches 2025 ZET Ahead Dashboard, tracking states' progress on zero-emission trucks and buses. Detroit, MI - Today, CALSTART released the 2025 update to its ZET Ahead Dashboard, an interactive visualization of the progress 23 states (and the District of Columbia) have made toward accelerating the adoption of zero-emission vans, trucks, and buses. A Q&A blog post accompanies the release. This updated dashboard debuts alongside the preeminent national clean transportation event Forth Roadmap Conference (October 14 - 16 in Detroit). The 2025 update to ZET Ahead includes detailed profiles of 6 new states: Illinois, Michigan, New Mexico, Texas, Georgia, and Florida, as well as progress updates to the 17 states originally featured on the dashboard. This year's dashboard update also adds a new Economic Development market dimension, analyzing complementary tax and workforce development policies that encourage clean transportation investment. The ZET Ahead Dashboard is used by policymakers, investors, industry stakeholders, and advocates to stay informed about the most impactful state actions and investments supporting zero-emission trucking. The dashboard also provides a framework for states looking to kick-start their transition to zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. In an era of constrained funding and increasingly complex and competing priorities, the ZET Ahead Dashboard provides state staff with a succinct playbook for initiating, growing, and sustaining an ecosystem for zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. Based on three decades of experience, CALSTART has identified the most impactful actions for states working to decarbonize their transport sector, using a strategy that requires not just one program or one policy, but rather a suite of complimentary deployments across a range of targeted areas such as: Targets, Planning, Economic Development, Vehicles Incentives, Infrastructure, Innovative Policy, and Regulations. What is equally noteworthy in this year's release is the newly added Economic Development dimension, which includes industry strategy and clustering, public financing, tax inducements, streamlined permitting, business assistance, and workforce development, among other sectors. Low-carbon, zero-emitting technologies, vehicles, and infrastructure are critical growth areas for the world economy, and states with strong market and regulatory support for these technologies will be attractive sites for manufacturing, service, and support. In particular, infrastructure installation and maintenance jobs are "hyper-local" - they must be done in the region - and are a powerful area for job training, incentives, and favorable policies. "States have a newly updated tool in their toolbox when it comes to zero-emission truck and bus adoption. Our ZET Ahead dashboard provides actionable information and much-needed guidance. In fact, the data we're seeing this year make clear that the groundwork to enable zero-emission trucking is no longer regionally clustered. And favorable market conditions are now spreading out across the entire United States," said Alissa Burger, Regional Policy Director at CALSTART. "Every state in the country - red or blue, urban or rural, big or small - can take steps today to enable freight modernization with zero-emission trucks tomorrow." Background: While vans, trucks, and buses (otherwise known as medium- and heavy-duty vehicles) make up less than 5% of vehicles on U.S. roads, this vehicle segment contributes a disproportionate burden in terms of both greenhouse gas emissions and harmful local air pollution. Accordingly, medium- and heavy-duty vehicle electrification presents outsize potential for climate abatement and improved urban air quality. A mission-driven industry organization focused on transportation decarbonization and clean air for all, CALSTART has offices in New York, Michigan, Colorado, California, Florida, and Europe. CALSTART is uniquely positioned to build the national clean transportation industry by working closely with its more than 210 member companies and building on the lessons learned from the major programs it manages for the State of California. CALSTART manages more than $1 billion in vehicle incentive and technical assistance programs in the United States and is leading a global effort to build the zero-emission commercial vehicle market.
